Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Bill Pearis
Season 4 of Gilmore Girls ended with a doozy of a finale, including the opening of Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Sookie's (Melissa McCarthy) Dragonfly Inn; gruff diner owner Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelei finally kissing after four seasons of will-they-or-won't-they tension; and Rory (Alexis Bledel) losing her virginity to ex-boyfriend Dean (Supernatural's Jared Padalecki), who happens to be newly married. Season 5 opens with the aftermath, and the course is set for what may be the series' best year yet. Instead of dealing with her actions, Rory escapes to Europe for the summer with her grandmother Emily (Kelly Bishop) who has separated from husband Richard (Edward Herrmann) after she learns of his long-standing (but platonic) relationship with a former flame. When Rory does head home, she finds the consequences of her indiscretion have not gone away, but have gotten worse. Back at Yale, Rory has begun writing for the school newspaper, and she takes a shine to Logan Huntzburger (Matt Czuchry), son of a newspaper magnate. In Stars Hollow, Lorelai struggles to keep the Dragonfly and her new relationship with Luke afloat. Emily, however, schemes to break up the couple by urging Rory's father (David Sutcliffe) to reconcile with Lorelai, while also drawing Rory further into her high-society world. Nearly all these plot threads come to head in "Wedding Bell Blues" -- easily one of the best episodes of the entire series -- with a blowout argument between Lorelai and Emily that should've netted both actresses Emmy nods. (Alas, the show remains criminally invisible to Academy voters.) But creator Amy Sherman-Palladino saved the biggest surprises for the finale, which finds nearly every character in a place where we've never seen them before. As usual, the dialogue crackles with wit and obscure pop-culture references, and the show always has time for the eccentricities of the Stars Hollow townsfolk. There's even room for a celebrity cameo -- although where some producers would aim for Brad Pitt, Sherman-Palladino ropes in novelist Norman Mailer. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Finally, Am a huge fan of the show, the 5th season with no doubt is great and am overjoyed that it´s finally on DVD, no more tapes, no more cleaning the VHS, and mainly no more winning because it does not work. Great Christmas present, any fan of the show will be thrilled with this box set.

With forgetting that the box is pink, this season is one of the best. It follows the girls as they experience yet another year of heartbreaks, new romances, family fights, and of coarse those hilarious lines that make the whole family laugh out loud. From the season premiere (starting right after Rory slept with Dean), to the season closer (when Lorelai propses to Luke), this set keeps you wanting more.

Gilmore girls season 5 is a great round off to Rory and Lorelei's relationship as they've grown up together and are finding out that the Gilmore Girls don't always agree. Season 5 definitely stayed true to the relationships of mothers and daughters and how intense they can be.
