Picking up where the previous season left off, season six of Gilmore Girls begins as Stars Hollow innkeeper Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) takes the initiative in her love life by proposing marriage to taciturn diner owner Luke Danes (Scott Patterson). Although he accepts, his subsequent hemming and hawing whenever the subject of a wedding date is brought up will dictate much of the action this season, culminating in a jaw-dropping cliffhanger finale involving Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe), who as everyone knows, is the father of Lorelai's college-age daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel).

Unfortunately, Lorelei and Rory aren't on speaking terms as the season begins, mainly because Rory has decided to drop out of Yale University -- and, incidentally, has run afoul of the law for the first time in her life, requiring her to perform 300 hours' community service. Happily, Rory finally agrees to return to Yale, taking over the editor's post at the campus newspaper when her roommate Paris (Liza Weil) is ousted in a "coup." Throughout the season, the relationship between Rory and her wealthy student boyfriend Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry) is a shaky one, especially after she learns of his various infidelities while speaking to the bridesmaids at his sister's wedding. Rory and Logan are reunited when she nurses him back to health after he is seriously injured in a stunt performed for the secret campus clique "The Life and Death Brigade." However, the couple's future is placed in jeopardy when Logan's father, powerful publisher Mitchum Huntzberger (Gregg Henry), forces the boy to take a job at his London newspaper. In other season six news, Lorelai's estranged parents Richard (Edward Herrmann) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) have decided to give their marriage a second chance -- and, much to their daughter's dismay, have elected to move to Stars Hollow; Lorelai's business partner Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) again copes with her responsibilities of new motherhood; Luke's ditsy sister Liz (Kathleen Wilhoite) becomes pregnant by her oafish husband T.J. (Michael DeLuise); and Rory's rock-musician friend Lane Kim (Keiko Agena), now reconciled with her conservative mother Mrs. Kim (Emily Kuroda), weds Zach (Todd Lowe), a member of her band, in the oddest ceremony of the 2005-2006 season. This year represents Gilmore Girls' last stand on the WB network; henceforth, the show would be seen on the brand new CW hookup.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Bill Pearis
The normally quiet hamlet of Stars Hollow was in a state of disarray at the end of Gilmore Girls' fifth season: Previously perfect Rory (Alexis Bledel) had been arrested for stealing a yacht, dropped out of Yale, and moved in with her wealthy grandparents (Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann), causing a distraught Lorelai (Lauren Graham) to propose to diner owner Luke (Scott Patterson). Season 6 opens with Luke's reply (yes), and much of the year's episodes deal with the progress of their impending nuptials, although series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino throws obstacles in their way like a bored goddess toying with her creations -- making Season 6 the series' most controversial yet. Nearly as divisive for fans is a half-season-long fight between Rory and Lorelai that keeps mother and daughter apart. Grandmother Emily sees all of this as a way to correct the mistakes she made with Lorelai, but she soon finds out that having Rory under her roof isn't quite the bonding experience she'd hoped for. Despite the topsy-turvy state of things, Season 6 had many classic episodes featuring outstanding performances and the show's signature crackling dialogue: Friday dinners with the grandparents are reinstated in "Friday Night's All Right for Fighting," containing a wild ten-minute finish unlike anything the show has attempted before; Lane (Keiko Agena) gets married -- twice -- in "I Get a Sidekick Out of You," which also finds Lorelai spilling her guts about the state of her own engagement, to everyone but Luke; and "Partings," the season finale that has Lorelai issuing Luke an ultimatum, while Stars Hollow is overrun with musicians hoping to be the new town troubadour (including members of Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, and Sparks). The season's biggest cliffhanger, however, happened off screen: Sherman-Palladino and her co-producer husband, Daniel, announced they were leaving the series. The show continues for better or worse, but Gilmore Girls -- The Complete Sixth Season is the end of an era for one of television's best shows.

Okey dokey, I pretty much adore 'Gilmore Girls', and I have the five previous seasons. I watch it regularly, and I can't study unless it's on in the background. Haha, I know-- I'm a stupee head. Buy the season, or you'll be hearing from ME! I also love romantic dinners, break dancers, and moonlit walks along the beach.. kisses!

Okay, first off, i'd like to say that i'm a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan! Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are an amazing pair, and bring alot to TV. Second, this show is awesome and i just love it, but this season has been kind of a let down. It's still got it's hilarious come-backs and quirks, but it was lacking that little something that was present in the other seasons. Oh well! GREAT show and i think it's amazingly, hilariously awesome!

wow, i love this show like, with a passion... its so cute and funny and I can't wait to buy the 6th season!! I was a little disappointed with the ending to season 5. I mean I love how Lorelai proposed to Luke, but I was so mad at Logan and that Rory dropped out of college. Oh well. I haven't seen the 6th season on TV or anything, so I guess I just can't wait to see it and I hope everything works out.

I have loved Gilmore Girls since the very first season, I can't wait to see this one!

Overall season 6 was a bit lacking compared to other seasons. Most importantly the relationship between both Luke and Lorelai and Lorelai and Rory. I will still buy this DVD because of my extreme love for the show. But, I was not as satisfied as I was of past seasons.

Even though this season was disappointing, I think that it was practical. Lorelai and Rory both faced problems that fans didnt exactly want to see, but was a big part of the show. In the end I am upset with the whole Luke/Lorelai situation, but am excited for Lorelai and Chris. I love all of Gilmore girls and even though this season wasnt my favorite it made sense.

I have always loved the Gilmore Girls but this season was well a little off from the others. I will still buy the season but I thought that the whole Lorlai and Rory fighting went on for to long. I suggest this season lorlai be happier because she was always fighting with someone! But I totally recommand this to everyone! I hope Luke and Lorlai get back together!!

I'm addicted to Gilmore girls but do not have time to watch it at night so I have to get the DVDs just to see what happend many seasons ago so PLEASE don't ruin the suspense by talking about things that's happening in this season when it's not even out yet!!!

I have seen every single episode of gilmore girls and i am in love with it. There is the best dialogue, characters, and so many funny lines. I bought every season on DVD. I just love Gilmore Girls and i actually copy and say what Lorelai and Rory say and do. For every conversation you have with a friend or family memeber there somehow is always a line from Gilmore Girls about your converesation.

Greatest Season of any TV show ever. Show will never be the same again after Amy and Daniel leaving. Too bad im in Australia, all can see the aftermath of the ultimatium and LG's actions before me. Season 6 hasnt been shown here yet. Thank god for the release on DVD!

Ok, maybe I am being a tad harsh, but I really do not care. I have earned that right after suffering through so much of the mundane enomaly that is the Gilmore Girls. Truly, being a TV on DVD junkie, I have a love for watching great shows. This however is not one of them. Seriously, this show centers around two characters who are the most self-absorbed neurotic people I have ever seen. At no point do their semi-coherent rants, on everything from society to tampons and ice cream, make any sense. Everything in their dialogue seems to come straight from the mouth of a 13 year old who thinks they are the only one to have ever fallen on bad days. Most of the time, I just have to sit and wonder why the he heck I am still watching this drivel, and I have to respond that I am simply hopeful to find a tinge of redemptive value. But I feel my hopes are like hoping that one day William Shatner will be arrested for Crimes against humanity for his "music album." Yes, I suffered through that one too. I guess for now, I just have to find peace in the simple pleasures like the end of "Sin City" where Alexis Bledel finally gets offed by Josh Hartnet. Amen to that. It's too bad her death on "Sin City" did not carry over to Gilmore Girls. Then again, when is life ever fair?

I absolutely love this show. I am hooked on this show. Do not pay any attention to the next review. This show is not mindless and pointless. If this show was bad, it would not have lasted so many seasons. Though it is quite quirky, it also is serious at times. The acting is great. My favorite character is Lorelai Gilmore, the crazy, quirky, quick- witted mom. I thought that the end show was a very exciting cliff-hanger.
Guest More than 1 year ago
This show is ,what I consider, an excellent and hilarious show. For those opposed to my opinion, you have no idea what you're talking about, or you need to study up on the Gilmore lingo a little more to fully understand the greatness of this show with these quick-witted characters, and the rest of the colorful people around them. This goes especially to the reviewer "Torched in Redding". When to you it sounds like they're saying something that sounds completely self-absorbed, to the rest of us Gilmore fans it's as funny as sarcasm comes. Feel free argue this point.

I had never seen this show until I watched it on DVD at a friends house but I am totally hooked! It's hilariously funny, and full of twists and turns. The acting is great and so believable! Can't wait until season 7 comes out on DVD!
