Overview

Angelina Jolie may have received most of the attention for her Academy award-winning supporting actress turn in Girl, Interrupted, but this Columbia DVD edition shows that she isn't the only element of the picture that deserved praise. A complex, rewarding film that was too often compared with the more allegorical One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, this DVD edition includes a diverting HBO First Look "making of" documentary, an isolated music score, and a few lesser extras. The real revelations come in director and co-screenwriter James Mangold's commentary track and a selection of scenes deleted from the final film. Mangold's superb audio commentary guides viewers through the step-by-step process of bringing this story to the screen. Everything from illustrating a theme with visuals, to working with actors, to the importance of art direction is discussed in a lively fashion. This probably won't interest casual movie fans but is invaluable for filmmakers and those interested in the complex filmmaking process. Also included on a separate track is a series of scenes edited out of the film. Mangold takes viewers through these deleted scenes, explaining why he took them out. Though his edits were sound, the deleted scenes explain the meaning behind the film's title and shed further light on the Winona Ryder character's emotional problems and her relationship with her mother. The anamorphic widescreen transfer is pristine and the audio is featured in Dolby Digital or Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound.

This is my favorite movie because I can relate to Susanna in my life's similar situations. people really do have emotions and actions like this. Winona and Angelina did such good portrayals of the life's of similar people in those situations.

    I Also Recommend:

Both Winona and especially Angelina give good performances.

This is a movie I don't get tired of watching and is one of my favorites. The book is also an interesting read. Susanna is sent for a "rest" and meets the other patients at Clay Moore hospital. And even becomes friends with Lisa. The transitions from present to flashback was well done, even the script and soundtrack. While a good movie, this is a sad film.

    emotionally moving

Just recently I saw "Girl, Interrupted" with my sister. After watching this movie my sister and I were incredibly moved. The movie was very realistic and my sister was able to connect with some of the characters very easily. As for me, I felt emotionally moved and in some ways felt the same feelings as these poor girls felt, lost and helpless. I congratulate the directors and writers, some of them being the actual patients, in making such a eye opener to the public. As a closer, this movie, eventhough the time period was older, was able to relate to todays girls those who are lost and helpless.

No matter how sane, you can relate to these girls

This is a truely unique film. It pulls you through several emotions ranging from sadness to excitement to an uplifting peace. You'll ask yourself this: Am I crazy? Could I end up in that situation? What is crazy? Definately a film to think about and review your own life, the life of those you hold dear and the problems many young woman face. Eating disorders, depression, rage. See this film and battle through it with the rest of these beautiful young woman.

    Overrated

If I have ever seen a motion picture that's reputation was better than the reality, this certainly applies. The one outstanding performance was Angelina Jolie's portrayal of the pathetically psychopathic Lisa. The other things in the movie were just to shock and disturb. Reality does that pretty much. For one thing, I don't think Winona Ryder was acting--that is her.

    A MUST SEE MOVIE!!!

When I first started to watch this movie...I was a little confused. It was a really sad movie and yet soooo smart. You will find that when you watch this movie you will be sad but then realize how interesting each character is and (almost) truly feel and tap in to their lives. Towards the end of the movie you will feel so connected! This movie pulls you in and WILL NOT let you back out until you take the taxi back home. Brilliant acting!!!

    awesome

Angelina deserved the award she got for this movie. Winona was great a suzanna. Britney murphy's character was the best I ever seen her in. The whole cast was awesome. It was about true friendship at the hardest of times, amongst other crazy things. Life is hard at times, but you get through it with hope and friendship.

    Don't Forget Poor Winona

Although Jolie's much-hyped, Oscar-winning performances was among the most memorable I have ever encountered, one must not lose sight of the true protagonist: Susannah, i.e. Winona Ryder. Ryder has seized the part, improved upon it, and amplified it to a point of breathtaking brilliance. The film itself was riveting, but it could not have functioned as it did without these two stunning performers. Two thumbs up~

    Daring, Thoughtful Movie

This movie was the greatest I have ever seen. It sets reality to those who are in these situations. It made me think as I am thinking of working in such a place.

    touching with powerfull performance

Wynona Rider and Angelina Jolie have made one of their best performances yet. Very convencing and such a difficlut story to tell. It sheds some light on mentally challenged people lives. The only thing I did not like much was the ending.

    Not offensive

I thought that ''Girl, Interrupted'' was a great movie. It dealt with a delicate issue very well. For the most part, there was nothing offensive towards those with handicaps or disablities.

    A Moving Movie

This movie was truely amazing. I saw this with a girl whom is now my best friend when it first came out. The story is touching, and the characters and acting is amazing. Knowing several people who attended this hospital, and have depression problems, I feel that this movie truely conveys some of the hardships in their lives. This story brought a lot of my friends together, and I watch it at least once a week!
