Gladiator Days:Anatomy of a Prison Murder,is without a doubt the most brutaly honest account of the racial problems in our nations prisons. The title pretty much sums it up,it takes us step by step through a meticulously planned and savagely executed ''hit'' on a black inmate who had threatend the life (big mistake) of the films subject Troy Kell. Its easy to dismiss Kell as a racist pyhcopath, especially after seeing the murder (the victim,Lonnie Blackmon, was stabbed 67 times),which was caught in all its gory and bloody detail on a prison surveilance camera. But as the film unfolds ,through extensive interviews with kell and others, its plain to see that Kell is a very articulet, intelligent person who himself appears to be a victim of a violent, race based prison society, that he has lived in for the last 17 years. This is one of the most well made documentarys you are likely to see, right down to the music.I could go on forever.......
This is the most freaky and most messed up biography I have ever seen. I have thought and flashed back on this video everyday since I've seen it. All I think about is Troy Kell's actions. I try to visualize on the moment he is killing these men, but I try not to put myself in that position. I will learn more about Kell as these days/months/years go by, but I fear that I will learn to much of PSYCHO and not Kell himself. The first time I seen this video I was confused, then it took me time to realize what i was watching "a murder in the act". Then I thought of my cousins(NOLAN), he was murdered 2 years ago by his uncle, pain. This video made me realize how much pain he was going through at the time he was being stabbed. People like FRANCIS and KELL do not deserve to see the light of day again. But the system in CANADA is so messed up then in the USA. I feel that there should be more penalties in our system of law. There is a slap on the wrist in our system, FRANCIS spent a year in luxury (prison) doing his time. I wish I could do a documentry on Nolan's murder so that more people could see how a person can take the soul/life from an innocent father/brother/son/best friend/ cousin/ the best person in the worlds life. I try so hard everyday to understand why people like Kell and FRANCIS have so much hate to kill. Maybe someday i will understand this HATE(I hope I will not come close to it). But now and in the near future I will try to make a differnce for these sick people and there surroundings. I HOPE my feelings and experience make a diifference in one murderers choice to KILL.
''Gladiator Days: anatomy of a prison murder'' is one of the best biography movies I have seen. It's outstanding and I love it. I first saw this movie on HBO then I saw it again in my Law Enforcement Class. I would watch this movie every day if I could, I cant wait till it comes out on January 7th, I will be one of the first people to buy this movie, I guarantee it!!!
