Overview

All that glitters is not always gold in the Mariah Carey box-office disappointment Glitter. However, Columbia has done a nice job on this 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The colors are all bright and well-rendered while the black levels are even without the slightest hint of gray. No edge enhancement, shimmer, or digital artifacting is present during any scenes in the movie. Say what you will about the movie, but this transfer by Columbia looks excellent. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 in both French and English. This 5.1 soundtrack is also very good, featuring a lot of surround usage by both the front and rear speakers. Many scenes in the film take place in nightclubs which utilize the deep bass to maximum effect. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are crystal clear without any distortion whatsoever. Also included on this disc are English and French subtitles (because the French are big fans of Mariah Carey's acting skills, perhaps?). Columbia has added a few extra features on this disc for fans of the singer/actress, starting with two music videos from the movie, "Loverboy" (featuring the singer prancing around in tight shorts and shirts) and "Never Too Far" (featuring the singer live in concert). A commentary track by director Vondie Curtis-Hall gives little insight into the film, though the director does have a few useful stories to share about the production of the film. Finally, there are some filmographies on the cast and crew and theatrical trailers for the movies Center Stage, Dance With Me, and Glitter.

I watched the movie expecting to laugh. Instead I was moved to tears. I think the publicity from Mariah's emotional problems overshadowed a nice movie. British actor Max Beesley is phenomenal as Dice her love interest.A some silly moments and dialogue that wasnt needed but otherwise worth the watch.

I'm not just saying this because I love Mariah to death, but because it really is a good movie. I saw it a hundred times in the movie theater so what if it only made a couple million, people need to stop listening to critics, I think people listen to much to the critics and that is why perfectly wonderful films flop at the box office.

This IS Mariah's first attempt at staring in her own film. It was really a good first start to a long career. If you always listen to what critics say then you'll miss a truely wonderful inspiring film. It's not even losely based on her life, it's just a movie, take it for what it's worth. The only thing that's the same is that she was a young girl knowing that she wanted to sing. Which is what Mariah did! Get over it and let yourself go in this film, the music is great.

Best movie.
Mariah has the best voice IN THE WORLD nooooo one is better than her nooo one will ever be better than her. So of course shes absolutely awesome in the movie Glitter. The soundtrack is AMAZING. Cant wait to see her next movie "Tennessee" (how ever that state is spelled)

This movie was SOO like totally AWESOME! The reviewers totally panned it, but i decided to rent it anyways, and DUDE! Was it good! Me and my friend both like, LOVED it! Well, maybe me more than her, but Whatever! It was GREAT! Dont always listen to the critics. We all have our own personal opinions, that can be different from those old cranky critics! So, like, HA! or, whatever!

Mariah surely did not get the credit that she deserved with this movie. I think that for her 1st time out she really did a great job with the script that she had to work with. The events of 9/11 really did not help her album & her movie at all. The critics were ready to pan MC before the movie even came out! Keep kickin' it MC!

I know most of the criics are saying that Glitter wasn't the best movie But I disagree This movie is awesome Its about a woman who has a beautiful voice A man starts To Produce her His name Is Dice The girls name is Billy Soon they start to have a realtoinship together but They grow apart She ends up leaving the Guy and He ends up getting shot by a bad guy name Timothy Billy sings Never to Far to all of her fans and She finally gets to see her Mother This is a great movie

Since when were the critics 100% right about every movie? Clearly in this movie, the critics didn't know what they were talking about. Glitter was a very good film and shows Mariah's talent to be on the big screen. Don't let the Critics tell you what a good film is. Decide for yourself!

Ok So alot of People say that Glitter wasn't really a good movie but i strongly disagree This movie is the best Mariha Carey is beautiful I can see why they named it Glitter She shines just like beautiful Glitter She has a lovely voice like an angel an She meets a cute tall dark and handsome guy name Dice Omg He's so fine!!! LoL I have to say this movie has drama Like the part when Billy Leaves Dice and he says something like Your Mother would have been proud of you She slaps him straight across his face Ouch Talk about drama but Its still an awesome film Dice ends up dead by bad guy Timothy Billy sings Never to far The song was about Dice and how she misses him but she finally sees her Mother agin and they reunite.

The movie was awesome, it had the best acting... dont judge a book by its cover; it seems critics did by judging the movie b4 it even came out b/c of incidents that had been happening in mariah`s life ( breakdowns) then it leaded others to thinking it was stupud when actually it was great .I expected it to be dumb but after whatching it i was fascinated and somewhat made me teary-eyed..keep up the awesome work mariah!

Okay.... I will admit... This movie is a little out there and I can see how a non fan of Mariah Carey wouldn't like it. BUT COME ON.... It was not THAT bad. I have seen way worse movies. Give her some credit. It's her first movie.... she a singer, not an actress. I personally like Mariah so I liked the movie. But overall is wasn't bad for a first time.

Mariah´s First movie Glitter is okey to watch i´ve seen them worse than this. First of all Mariah sounds great she has a big voice and i think that really helped this movie. Mariah is Billie Frank a talented young unknown singer who was giving away by a drug-alcoholic mother and she meets Dice and falls in love with him and he helps her to make it big. Well Glitter could be much better i didn´t like all the songs except for the lead song Lead The Way and Never Too Far.

I'm sorry to all the other Mariah Carey fans out there, but this movie was torture. It only sold tickets because of her name on the posters. The photograpy is confusing and hard-to-follow, the acting is basic. Yeah, we all know she has a great voice, but did they have to do it up like poor kid with drug-addicted mother, but she'll make it because of stupid luck. I laughed with all the predictable scenes they threw in! It wasn't all campy enough to make it funny though, which was sad because they took themslves seriously. Next time, Mariah, look for something with actual substance!

This movie is a great one! It truly showcases Mariah Carey's many talents as a songwriter, performer, actress, etc. DO NOT LISTEN to the other critics! They do not now good talent from bad. This movie was well written and it has many humorous parts to it as well. It is a very good story of Billie's rise to fame and the trouble that comes with it. GOOD MOVIE! I recommend it to everybody!

This movie is god-awful from start to finish...the plot is forgettable, the acting is average at best, and the concept obviously was made to glorify Mariah Carey at a time when her career wasn't going anywhere. Not to mention the movie is amazingly boring and melodramatic...the shameless corny-ness is awful and the dialogue and music that usually is in these even worse scenes is laughable. Blubber all you want to corny music, Ms. Carey, but this movie is your worst career decision ever, and one of the worst movies, as well.
