I highly recommend this DVD both for the movie "Glory" and for the extras included. The acting was what I've come to expect from the lead actors. The story this DVD told should be an inspiration to us all.

This movie, based on a true story, so intriqued me that I love to watch it over and over. The realism is unsurpassed! This and other great Civil War stories I've watched or read inspired me to write several Civil War romances of my own.

What is the color of freedom? I was moved by the acting done by these great men. I almost felt as if I was transported back in time. Bullets know no man and freedom knows no color. Either we're all free or we're all imprisoned. The lessons here are paramount. Great DVD. Get it today. You will not be disappointed

Glory, a movie that closely follows the life and hardships of the men involved in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment is both an inspiring and fairly accurate film in terms of relating to the people and events of the time. In particular, the movie follows the battle scenes such as Ft. Wagner to an astonishly accurate degree, according to the opinion of Shelby Foote, a distinguished historian who played a key role in reviewing the film's battle scene contents. At the same time, Glory contains its innacuracies and flaws as well. When one of the men of the 54th is caught as being a deserter for example, he is severely whipped. By 1863 however, this practice was outlawed in the north and would not have been ordered by the troop Colonel. An even more obvious flaw stands in the fact that the African American characters of the film are mostly fictional characters, while the leaders such as Colonel Robert Shaw were real people. Why is there no mention of some of the notable people in the troop such as the sons of Frederick Douglas or Sargeant William Carney? These questions are left unanswered. Even with its negatives, the overall effects of Glory are what prove to matter the most. As a result, it has become a useful teaching tool as the majority of it accurately follows the events of the time. Moreover, it has led people to find a greater appreciation for the history of our nation, and caused many to find the desire to further learn about the inside story of the Massachusetts 54th.

Glory was one of the most accurate Civil War movies ever made to date. The dates were all correct and the battle scenes were notably accurate. This movie is a great movie for a research project on the Civil War, but not exactly the kind of movie someone would watch for entertainment, unless he/she was very much interested in history, then it would be entertaining for him/her. However, if you are doing a research project on the Civil War, specifically the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, then this movie is excellent for that. I'm not a big history fan myself, but I was doing a Civil War research paper and that's how I came across this movie, it helped me a lot with my paper, but I wouldn't say I would watch it again for entertainment, but if I ever needed to research the Civil War again for future years, then this would be at the top of my list.

Glory chronicles the story of the Massachusetts 54th regiment and its leader, Robert Shaw. It vilifies the Confederate forces from the start and shows them as the attackers. Shaw and his men start out distant and constantly clash, but as training wears on, he begins to bond with them and form a real connection. As the men enter the Battle of Fort Wagner, they are inspired by Shaw's drive and keep the colors flying high even after he falls. The men of the Massachusetts 54th caused others to join the war effort, especially other African Americans. Overall, I enjoyed Glory, although it was a little long. However, the story portrayed is a powerful one that is still remembered today.

This is a heart-wrenching portrayal of actual history that was ignored for too long. It is unbelievable what these men sacrificed in the face of blatant discrimination. They gave their lives for the sake of all future generations. Their dignity and courage moved me to tears.

A wonderful tribute to some of the greatest and bravest soldiers in the history of our Union. We must never forget their sacrifices.

i watched this movie in history class, and i honestly think everyone in the class fell in love with it, and the teacher claims she gets goosebumps during certain parts, when, after seeing it hundreds of times, sometimes 5 times a day(for the 5 classes) on movie days, she still gets goosbumps. this movie is a real winner-and im only in 8th grade

This film remains one of the best ever made. I saw it more than once at the theatre because this movie defines cinema. The cinematography is the best I have ever seen! I went in not expecting much and came out with 'Glory' being one of my two favorite films. The cast was perfect and thankfully the academy did not overlook this masterpiece either. My only lament is that James Horner did not get the accolades he deserved for his emotional, perfectly tailored and just plain best soundtrack. This film was also without doubt the best picture of the year but it was not nominated.

I just showed this movie to my HS sophomores and they loved it. For the most part they have been disinterested in history, but after this movie, many of them are asking for more information. It hits closer to home since I teach in Massachusetts.

Rarely does a movie touch me but 'Glory' just touched me so much. Denzel Washington was fantastic as well as Morgan Freeman. What made this movie so great was the Performance of Matthew Broderick as he was at his best. Broderick plays Colonel Shaw and a fine job he did do. This movie is about the first black infantry unit in the US. This by far was the best movie i have ever seen and i would recommend it to anyone that enjoys action movies. The battle scenes were done very well. The ending will touch everyone and as everyone will be sad by it too.

This movie shows the bravery of Colored Troops during the Civil War, and the prejudices they endured by thier own army. Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick are supurb. Broderick is one of my favorite actors, as he can play a variety of roles. Who ever thought that the actor who played the inspirational Col. Shaw was the same guy who played the wise-cracking Ferris Bueler? Like the Tuskegee Airmen, 'Glory' gives Colored Northern Troops their due. Now, I'd like to see a movie that centers around the 80,000 free blacks who fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War.

I loved the touching story of the 54th Mass. and the Battle of Ft. Wagner. What made this movie great was a cast of fantastic actors. This is Mathew Broderick's best performance. Freeman, Washington, and Yules expectedly give great performances. Its a must see movie.

Rarely a movie touches me as deeply as Glory has. From its stunning acting performances, through all too realistic war scenes, and to the heart of the true soul and character of the 54th regiment Mass, this epic war film epitomizes the hardships of all black infantries. This movie cannot go unseen by any Civil War historian and truly, by any American. There is a deep message portrayed through this masterpiece, a message of courage and faith when all of the world seems to be the enemy. The 54th, though, vowed never to surrender and through that, they came to the realization of what our mission is in this fight we call life... Glory.

Glory is possibly one of the greatest war movies ever made. The performances of Matthew Broderick, Cary Elwes, Morgan Freeman, and Denzel Washington were superb, as were all the other actors in the lesser, but still important, roles. The battle scenes were intense and realistic, without all the gratuitous gore that usually goes along with this type of film. The end was a complete surprise and a great twist to the film. The music was beautiful and complemented the film wonderfully. The cinematography was excellent, with great camera angles to portray key scenes in the movie. This is one of my favorite movies and I recommend it very highly.
