This was a great remake of the original. I felt it had a good mix of excitement, boy gets girl, and hero saves the day.
I thought it was wonderful. Most people I know know when you say "Godzilla" in a funny voice you are referring to that part in the beginning with the old man in the hospital who could only say one thing. although i did wonder what the cigarette lighter had to do with anything. I have watched it numberous times.
Many have reviled this film but it better than the Godzilla sequels (except Godzilla 1985). It was not the best monster film & I'm surprised Japan permitted TriStar to make it. The only decent acting was done by Jean Reno & the actors portraying the U.S. military. Loved the actors spoofing Siskle & Ebert: very funny. The creature should not have been called Godzilla. It looked gay & pathetic. Making it asexual was stupid. Up to that point the movie was great. The most moronic part was Godzilla chasing a taxi. He wrecked a Japanese freighter & smashed thru buildings yet he couldn't catch one lousy taxi! It would have been cool to see a sequel perhaps with him fighting a revised Smog Monster. The best in the Godzilla series is the 1954 original (Gojira).

They should have given this monster some other name because Godzilla is not this creature! Cool looking though. I gave it a 2nd try and this is my final Rating for it. I stand by what I put!

PS watch this giant lizard get whooped by the real Godzilla in... Godzilla: Final wars

As a movie its good. as a godzilla movie just a tiny bit disapointing. special effects are great! very realistic looking. seeing him run through the city was fun. first time i saw it i was completly buyest since im a long time " old rubber suit wearing" Godzilla fan. this to me was a horrible looking Godzilla but if this was just some monster movie i would have liked it ALOT more. i dont know why they just coulnt make thier own monster then this one could fight the rubber suit looking one in a future movie and it would be awesome!

oh come on! How come you guys keep making this movie sound so bad? I've owned it for a while and it is very good. The special effects are awesome. How can you compare the new Godzilla with the old. The old ones make him look fake and cheesy.

I really enjoyed this movie. The effects were great - and Godzilla looked really cool. It had a good cast, story-line, and some humor. My family loves to watch this movie:).....oh, the music was good too.

I love this movie. Sure it was nothing like the real Godzilla, But you got to admit,it is really a piece of art. A lot of peaople say it's bad, but it isn't. They are just mad about recreating the real godzilla.

This movie is so pathetic. A real sad attemp to recreate the real godzilla. This movie will put anyone to sleep. It gives the real godzilla a bad name. The only good part is all the action.

This is nothing but a mockery to the Godzilla series and they should be ashamed of themselves. There is no consistency and it doesn't even look like Godzilla. In one scene, with Godzilla walking, everything bounces off of the ground. Later, with Godzilla running, nothing bounces. Just plain poorly done. No one involved with this movie belongs in the movie business.

Lazy Storytelling (a half assed re-write of the beast from 50,000 Fathoms), lazy special effects (the monster's size and abilties vary from moment to moment) just horrible acting and a nasty smirking contempt of Godzilla and the audience sank what was to be the first of a series - So bad that Toho took Godzilla back from Tristar and restarted their series. See anything else. Please
