While he has done well in his life of crime, he knows that there's a short future in theft, and he wants to get out of the business. But his retirement plans are interrupted when his younger brother Kip Giovanni Ribisi gets in trouble with a dangerous crime boss. To get his brother out of harm's way, Randall agrees to a profitable but risky scheme to steal 50 luxury cars in one night, with the help of several other car thieves, including Sara "Sway" Wayland Angelina Jolie. A rival group of thieves is trying to pull the same stunt at the same time, and detectives Castlebeck Delroy Lindo and Drycoff Timothy Olyphant are trying to shut down both operations. Also starring Robert Duvall as Otto Halliwell, and Scott Caan as Tumbler, Gone in Sixty Seconds is a remake of the 1974 low-budget action hit of the same name, best remembered for a 40-minute chase scene in which 90 cars were destroyed.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Fast, loud, expensively mounted, and charged with testosterone qualities it shares with most other films produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Gone in 60 Seconds is the archetypal popcorn movie that offers a shot of pure, visceral entertainment. Nominally based on a 1974 B-movie with the same title, it stars Nicolas Cage as a former car thief -- the best in the business, we're told. Cage comes out of retirement to help his irresponsible young brother Giovanni Ribisi pay off a debt to a debonair but ruthless gangster Christopher Eccleston. To do this he must steal 50 cars in one night, a herculean task for which he enlists the aid of onetime associates Angelina Jolie, Robert Duvall, and Will Patton. Director Dominic Sena deals with plot absurdities by ignoring them, concentrating his creative energies on the big heist and its unintended consequences. He develops nail-biting suspense with this lengthy, elaborate sequence, but it's those high-octane chase sequences that really put Gone's pedal to the metal.

    Gone in 60 Seconds

This fast paced, high adrenaline movie is not just for young teens, but for car junkies as well. Randall "Memphis" Raines a retired car thief has just come back into business in long beach. Due to his overconfident brother Kip messing up a previous boost, Memphis must steal 50 cars in one night to save his brothers life. To do this he brings back his old “crew” to strategically plan to steal the cars in the required time. Dt. Castlebeck of the L.A.P.D. has been chasing Memphis for years, but can never pin him for a crime. He gets very suspicious of Raines when he comes back to long beach, and keeps a very close eye on him. Memphis has to do the impossible to save his brothers life, while avoiding Castlebeck and the rest of his police force. This movie was hammered by critics for its poor acting and predictable story line. However I enjoyed this movie very much because of the high speed chases and exotic cars throughout the film. Even though story was very predicable it was interesting to see how the family could possibly make it out alive.

If you like the fast lane, then Gone in 60 Seconds is your movie. This movie tells of a great challenge that has to finish within a certain time limit. I enjoyed this movie because I love fast cars and smoe of the greatest cars, in my opinion, are in this movie. This really gets the addreniline pumping for people who like a fast ride.

Slick, yet grimy tire-burner. Includes Bruckheimer.

Jerry Bruckheimer's summer movies: You either like them or you don't. No big surprises here with the new ''Gone'' remake. The movie seems to try to capture the grimy essence of its forefather, but it ends up just feeling a bit slow and dark in the first half. However, this remake seems to respect the intentions of the old film, and many movie remakes don't. It is much more watch-able than the old movie in the plot before the chase. And the new chase may not be realistic, but it is a lot of fun, even for people who've gotten pretty worn-out on car chases. The good guys win, the bad guys lose, and a really cool car gets thrown around public roads. This movie is not very memorable, but it does just what it tries to do: sell escapism and popcorn.

The movie that has cool cars on it

I like the movie gone in 60 seconds because it has nice cars in it. This movie had cars in it like Hummers, Ferraris, Porsches, and Mercedes. But the nicest car in the movie was a 1967 GT 500 Ford Mustang that they had to stell, they named this mustang Eleamer. I also liked the plot of the movie, the movie also meat the criteria that I put to movies. That is my review of the movie gone in 60 seconds.

    Absolutely Breathtaking

I fell in love with this movie the moment I laid eyes on the commercial advertising it. I'd heard good things about it from friends who had seen it in theaters, so I couldn't wait for it to arrive on video. Action, suspense, comedy, all-star cast; this movie has it all. I'm a huge Angelina Jolie fan and I personally feel she rocked as her character, Sway. Although her role wasn't full of dialogue, she still made her character stand out with her amazing performances and overall aura. I loved the other characters as well: Memphis, Tumbler, Sphinx- they were all amazing! If you love action, classic cars and fast-paced music, ''Gone In 60 Seconds'' is definitely for you!

    Best Action Movie In Years

Gone in 60 Seconds had me on the edge of my seat from the words going, going, gone!!! This has to be the best action movie since Return of the Jedi. The casting was superb!!! Jolie and Cage were on fire together. The stunt work and special effects were absolutely amazing. You couldn't ask for anything more! From the great cast of character to the storyline, this is a definite must see.
