NOTE: This DVD is NOT in 'pan-and- scan.' It's is in its original full screen version. A delightul story loosely adapted from Ozu's early silent, this tells the story of two boys who go on a hunger strike until their father buys them a TV. Convinced that Japan would become 'a nation of idiots' with the acceptance of the television, this amusing conflict tells a great deal about the necessary courtesies that fuel everyday life. Perhaps the director's most accessible (and instantly lovable) film.
