    A show you will LOVE!

This is an absolutely stunning show with some of the best writing, acting, and directing that I've seen in a while. And since I love it so much, I am a little surprised it's still on the air, since quality shows rarely stay on long.

I was a late comer to this party, but after discovering this gem, I devoured it. I was at first resistant because I was so tired of all the scandals, and I never understood why so many women chose to stand by their man, but I was too harsh on this show.

Julianna Marguiles doesn't play a doe-eyed, stand by your man through whatever type of character. In the first episode, when asked why she stayed, she responded, "I thought I would leave too if it ever happened to me, but I was completely unprepared." (I am quoting that from memory, so it may not be exact, but very close.) I can accept that, and I can appreciate her struggles to try and keep it together in the following months.

It's also very interesting, much more so than I would have thought, to see what happens to the wife and kids in situations like that. I'm used to the headlines, the stories, the mistress' exclusive, but I felt really bad for his family having to deal with issues most people never have to even think about, like reporters harassing them, people staring, kids having to hear and see videos about the details of their parent's sex lives.

But as easy as it would be to vilify Peter (Chris Noth, the husband) and deify Alicia (Marguiles), they didn't. They have done a superb job of instead making these characters deep and complex. There are moments when I yell, "Punch him in the gut!" (or something similar), but then other moments when I (shockingly) find myself empathizing with him and hoping the two main characters can work it out. I know marriage isn't easy, but I am so used to seeing either cut and run or instantly forgiven that their attempts to figure it all out is rather refreshing (not to mention more realistic, especially when married for a long time).

The law firm where Alicia works is definitely the most fun aspect of the show because of all the different cases, stories, rivalries, and people. You also get a little bit of unrequited sexual tension between Alicia and her boss, one of the law firm's partners, Will (Josh Charles). I've been a fan of his since Sports Night, but their relationship is just one part of a giant, awesome whole that also includes Christine Baranski, Archie Panjabi, Matt Czuchry, and Alan Cumming. All the actors are brilliant, and I want them all to win awards because, again, they are simply stunning. Hands down, this is THE BEST ensemble group on any show, possibly ever (although that might be overstepping it just a bit).

This show is absolutely worth your time, attention, and money. After one episode, I was hooked. And after finding it on DVD, I spent fours a night with my husband trying to get caught up. Now that we are, I can't wait for more! They are currently airing new episodes of season 2 on CBS.
