This movie is about trust.In the beginning, It looks like Will trusts his friends, but it was not actually a trust, It was more loyality.Will does not trust anyone because he was an orphan.His original parents had abandoned him. Will has a moment of catharsis when Robert Williams said, "It's not your fault." Over and over.Will realized every thing that did happen to him didn't happen beacuse of him.It help his renewal for living.He goes to California to find his .At end of the movie,he figure, she did really love him.

Set in culturally colorful and brutal, predominately Irish South Boston, Will Hunting is a tortured genius always in scuffles with his past, his love, and the cops. This is a major keeper in a modern cinema that begs for deserving quality. Written by Affleck and Damon, it reflects also young genuises in writing that seems never to be realized unfortunately.

This movie was of especial interest to me because in many ways my background parallels that of Will Hunting. It is a good story, with good acting, but what spoils it for me is the fact that the psychologist waves his magic wand and Will Hunting is cured - well, almost. The truth is, it takes years and years and years to leave behind a war zone childhood. Also, when traumatized, it is nearly impossible to excel academically because of the baggage, stress and anxiety of surviving. If you are in a war for 15 years, and the guns suddenly stop, how long before you accept the fact that you don't have to duck when there is an explosion? The opportunity to explore the impact of a horrible childhood on a potentially great intellect was blown in the interest of a pure hollywood ending. I am over 60 and am still in the process of leaving the war zone even though the guns stopped firing over 45 years ago.

Trust is very important in every relationship because it helps you to understand the feelings of the people in your life. It can also help you to express your feelings. Will discovers that he is a good person and the troubles that he went through wasn't his fault. Robin Williams was my favorite character, he tried to show the behavior of a person Will could trust.

It was a movie about trust because the main character, Will Hunting, had trouble with attachtment and pushed everyone away before he can earn someones trust. This movie was a comming of age story because Will realizes that everything that has happened to him while growing up wasn't his fault. My favorite character was the therapist, Sean, because he helped Will find what he was and wanted in his life.

This was a movie about trust because that is something that the main character, Will, had trouble with. Once he learned how to trust he was able to start anew with a much better life. This is also a coming of age story because Will discovers that he is a good person and that he is able to trust. He realizes that what happened wasn't his fault and sees that people can love him back for who he is. My favorite character in the movie is the doctor, Sean. He is a wise person. He has gone through some of the same things that Will has gone through and is able to help him deal with it.

The movie was about trust because all of the things that Will went through. It shows why he didnt trust anyone and who he could trust. This is also a comming of age story. Will discovered who he is and all the things that happened to him are not his fault. He realizes that somebody can love him for who he is. Will was my favorite actor in the movie because he dealt with a lot and learned from it.

This movie teaches that you should trust peoplein your life. if you dont, you will lead a lonely life. This is a copmming of age story where Will realizes nothing was his fault, and that he can love and be loved. My favorite character was Will, because he reminds me of myself. Our lives are simliar, but still different; we have to go through a lot in our lives. So I am able to identify with him.

This was a movie about trust because Will learned to trust Sean by testing him. He learned that all the things that had happened to him were not his fault. This is a story of coming of age. Will learns to trust and love others in his life. Matt Damen was my favorite character because he is a tuff person. He learned to see that he could trust someone.

This movie was a great achievemnet to the Academy of Movies and a great movie for viewers over the age of 10. Powerful and intriging moments with a hint of emotion. Robin Williams was outstanding as his role in the movie. Ben Affleck gave his best performance ever although thats not saying much. Matt Damon was Oscar worthy for his role. Over all the movie was worth watching time and time again.

GOOD WILL HUNTING was actually written by two of its stars, boyhood friends, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. I was surprised when I first learned this; the screenplay, while still a little rough around the edges, shows a lot of insight for the twentysomethings that Damon and Affleck were in 1997. GOOD WILL HUNTING is the story of, who else, Will Hunting (Matt Damon), a janitor at MIT and a young man with a very troubled past. Will was an orphan and a victim of child abuse. As an adult he's a petty criminal with a short fuse and an uncanny ability to reduce the most complicated math problems and theorems to simple answers, something he does at night on MIT's chalkboards. Will is a mathematical genius with a photographic memory, but he neither recognizes his gift nor cares. He'd much rather be out with his other blue-collar buddies, drinking and getting into trouble. Two things happen to change Will's errant ways. The first is the fact that his genius is found out by one of MIT's professors, Professor Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard). Professor Skarsgard wants to do something to encourage Will to develop his gift. The second, and more pivotal thing that happens is that Will assaults a police office on one of his nightly binges and lands in jail. Luckily, Will comes before a judge with some understanding of what he really needs. Instead of being sent to jail, Will is ordered to spend one day a week with Lambeau, studying math, and one day a week with a therapist in order to work through his short temper and his need to self-destruct. After a few false starts, Will ends up seeing Sean McGuire (Robin Williams), a teacher at Bunker Hill Community College and Lambeau's former college roommate. As things progress, it becomes more and more evident that Will is just as good for Sean as Sean is for Will. Will also receives help and encouragement from his childhood friend, Chuckie (Ben Affleck) and a pretty Harvard student from Britain, Skylar (Minnie Driver). The plot of GOOD WILL HUNTING is very, very predictable, as is its ending, but that really didn't stop me from enjoying the film. There are some outstanding moments and set pieces, but overall, the film is only a little above average. The dialogue is sometimes above average and, much to my delight, there was actually subtext, something so much screen and literary dialogue lacks these days. The thing that really rescues the film from mediocrity, though, are the performances from all the actors, especially an uncharacteristically subdued performance from Robin Williams. The scenes between Williams and Damon feel 'real' and the chemistry between Affleck and Damon and Damon and Driver is palpable. Of course, the fact that Affleck and Damon have been lifelong friends and that Damon and Driver were romantically involved during the filming of GOOD WILL HUNTING didn't hurt the 'chemistry' one bit. Still, it could have gone wrong. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were engaged when they made GIGLI and that fell flatter than any proverbial pancake ever could. GOOD WILL HUNTING is a very solid, though predictable piece of entertainment, with strong performances from all concerned. I would recommend renting it before buying it, however, as it's not a film that one wants to see again and again. At least not in my opinion.

Many see this film as about a rebellious person finally dealing with things and going on with life. But there is a very powerful message that someone who has not experienced a lifetime of abuse would miss. It is the constant rejection by Will and testing out of everyone who tries to help him. He pushes them all away brutally. I saw this movie and it changed my life, because I had never realized the meaning of my actions, the terrible fear of believing that anyone really does want to help, the fear of opening one's heart and having it broken, breaking others before they break yours. It is a wonderful film which helped me immensely, but others, when I tried to explain compulsive actions to them recommending that they watch this movie, did not get the message. To anyone who tries to help very hurt and abused people, this is a must see, more than once, in order to have compassion and understand the actions of such a person. It is a very hard compulsion to break, even though thanks to this film I am now aware of it, I find myself having acted in the same way over and over again. I'm always saying to myself, O No I did the Good Will Hunting thing all over again.

MY WIFE MADE ME WATCH IT-BY THE WAY, I HATE ROBIN WILLIAMS (MORK) AND BEN AFFLECK (DORK) BUT THE MOVIE HAD POWER, EMOTION AND A STRONG ENDING...FOLLOW YOUR HEART. OK, OK MAYBE I EVEN SHED A TEAR OR TWO.

What the other reviews missed was Irish/Celtic culture and how it exists in America today. The Gaelic trinity of courage, loyalty and hope are detailed well in the characters and in their neighborhood. The members of the gang pick on each other relentlessly out of boredom but when encountering others from the outside they immediately close their circle and repel them. They all support the decision of one member, even the smallest is expected to put himself on the line and he does. Their ranking in the group is detailed in the seating in the car. Not too many questions are asked of each other¿s past, they all have been through the same and accept how each of them deals with it in their own way. But though they care for each other they aren¿t afraid to say: ¿Get the hell out, here¿s your chance...never mind about us.¿ The therapist, Robin Williams was able to penetrate Damon¿s world only because he was from the same Irish background, from the same neighborhood. Williams knew what Damon was doing and saying just from his actions alone. Yeah, there was the ¿F¿ word, used a lot. It was necessary to display the roughness and vulgarity of Damon¿s life in his world. It does exist¿I know by experience. It was used for accuracy; it was not a Hollywood decision to shock you. If you don¿t believe me you are lucky to have lived such a sheltered life. This is not to say all Irish Americans live this way, only the ones that have not been able to get themselves out of the slums they entered during immigration, especially during the famine years induced by Britain.

The use of the F-word is almost crucial here, as this is a commentary on society today. In the social circles examined here, the words are believable and not ''over-written''. Let's face it, for better or worse, this is how many communicate, especially in Southie! :) That aside, this movie comes highly recommended as an inspiration to anyone who has ever been taught or teaches - that would be all of us, right?

This was an excellent film although there were way too many unnecessary ''F-words'' in there. I can't recall one scene that didn't use the ''F-word'', but anyway, this movie was uplifting, funny, sad, clever, and wonderfully intelligent with brilliant performances from Robin Williams and Matt Damon. I recommend this title to the average moviegoer

Like the other reviewer, I too ordered this DVD thinking it had was the ''Collector's Edition'' shown on this page with the many features listed above. WRONG!!! You get the standard edition DVD, with only a small subset of the features (none of the following: deleted scenes, commentary, featurette, tv spots, best picture montage, etc.) Repeated attempts to get B&N to straighten this out have failed - I now possess 2 copies of the WRONG DVD version.

Although the picture shown here is the ''Collector's Edition'' and it shows a lengthy features list, this is actually the featureless standard edition. Do not order it unless you want the standard edition. I ordered it months ago and complained, but they still haven't fixed it.
