Perfect for calming sensitive children

My son is very sensitive, active and has trouble relaxing and winding down. He loves his book, Goodnight Moon, so we bought this DVD. I'm so glad we did! This HBO presentation far outclasses the Scholastic books on DVD. The animation is beautiful, the narration (Susan Sarandon) excellent and the video also includes beautiful lullabies, Nighmare in my Closet and Tar Beach. Children share their dreams and ideas, completely capturing my son's attention. The DVD is a feast for the eyes and ears and soothing for everyone. It's a perfect wind-down DVD.

Best children's dvd that parents will enjoy.

This movie was great at calming our kids while keeping them entertained just before bedtime, even when they didn't know English. Of all children's videos/DVDs, this one is by far the best one we have. I recommend it to any parent who wants good tv time before bed. The kids' stories are so hilariously honest.

A must for any Goodnight Moon lover

My 1 year old loves this. He had the board book and liked to read it at bedtime. When I saw this on HBO I recorded it for him and it has been part of our bedtime routine ever since. Whenever he is feeling tired but not quite ready for bed or when he just cranky, nothing makes him feel more comforted than this video. He loves to look at his book and watch the story at the same time. Susan Sarandon reads Goodnight Moon just like I do to Jack.

A Classic For The Toddler

This DVD is highly recommeded for the young and old alike. I'm a grandmother of 4 under 4. It's perfect for that special bonding time at bedtime. My grandchildren request it, frequently!

Life-Saver

My 2 year old son loves The Goodnight Moon book, and happened to see it previewed on HBO, which was a life savor because the book is quite short and was getting old. But this enjoyable movie has my child captured the entire time... Which is hard to do! Thank god for this because it is a very important part of our good-night routine and he knows when he watches this it's time for bed. Thank you! :"

Too scary!

Most of the songs, stories and children's commentaries were delightful. I was hoping this DVD would help my little one unwind and prepare for bedtime. However, "There's a Nightmare in my Closet" has left my 3-year old terrified and afraid of what's lurking in the dark! The thought of the big, ugly creatures hiding in her closet has terrified my daughter. Also, there are a couple of comments by the children about death that even I found a little creepy. A little girl describes how her dead grandma talks to her in her dreams. A little boy talked about how his daddy died and his spirit visits his mommy in her dreams. The idea that the spirits of our loved ones live on is wonderful... However, this concept is a little deep and is too "spooky" for a 3 year old!

Video magic for younger children

This is a wonderful video. It features several classic books and folk songs related to sleep. These beautifully presented pieces are interjected with children's precocious comments about sleep & dreams. Few videos address these issues with such insight. This is a favorite of all of our children (ranging in age from 16 mo, 7, 9, 14, & 15) as well as my wife and myself. We all find ourselves drawn (with smiles on our faces) to the sounds and sights of this unusual video.

Rated Highly by Mom and Dad of Twin Boys

This video was purchased for our twin sons at the age of two months. The boys, who are now three, enjoy it immensely as well as Mom and Dad. Whenever I have a baby shower to attend, I make a Good Night Moon gift pack that includes the video. Very calming and great to transition the boys to quiet time.

Wonderful stories brought to life

I originally watched and taped this special on HBO with my then 3 year old son. Upon wearing out that tape, I bought a copy because my son absolutely loves this video. The music and stories (incl. a Nightmare in My Closet & Faith Ringold's Tar Beach) are so beautifully brought to life. The interviews with the children are great because kids love to watch other kids on TV. My son is now 4. Although he usually acts as though he is now too old to read Good Night Moon (which we began when he was 3 months old), he LOVES this video. Absolute must have, esp. great for babysitter nights.

A Must Have For Your Children's Library

I've been reading Goodnight Moon to my granddaughter since she was 6 months old. It is her favorite nighttime book. The video is wonderful too. The animation on Goodnight Moon and narration by Susan Sarandon are excellent. The animation is not overdone, keeping it simple which is great, cause you can't improve much on the perfection of the book. Susan's voice is soothing and enjoyable and read like most parents would read it. The rest of the video is equally delightful. My granddaughter is now 22 months and loves the children in the video. They are amazingly articulate and cute and funny. She laughs with them and they are like friends to her. One part of the video which surprised me: Monster in My Closet was one that scared my granddaughter a little and for the first dozen or so showings of the video, she would pull the covers up. Now she laughs at the monster, so it's great to see her growing as a result of the video. We watch it almost every night, and still read, and she is now trying to sing the songs too. It's just an excellent video for parents, grandparents, and, of course, children under 6.

Watch the ENTIRE thing

We recently rented this for our 2 year old. He loves the book and now the video, too. Be sure to hang around until after the final credits roll--watch and listen to the end comment from a real cutie! You'll grin!

even my older kids loved it!

Great video. We watched so many times we wore out the tape. The music and stories are enchanting and the interviews with the kids are very funny and creative. A video adults, older and younger kids will enjoy..take it from a mom of 6!

If you own a child, you must own Goodnight Moon!

We have played our tape so much it has finally worn out. My husband and I know it by heart. It doesn't matter how many times we play it, our little girl can't seem to get enought of it. She always grins when she hears the children start to talk. We love it!!! If you have children - this tape is a must. If you don't have children, it makes a wonderful gift.

My three year old loves this!!

We rented this tape and my daughter could not get enough of it. I am so thankful that I was able to purchase a copy for her to watch over and over again. She is at the age where she loves the music and stories as well as the childrens interviews. I highly recommend this. It is a must have for your collection.

Bedtime Lifesaver

This video was given to me as a gift when my son was 10 months old.....what a lifesaver. He was at the stage where he wouldn't listen when read to, he was only interested in eating the books. We were having a hard time getting him to bed...separation anxiety...so we would just put this video in, lay on our bed, get a bottle, blanket and cuddle for the full 1/2 hour. It was such quality time....he loves the video, and so do we! I highly recommend it. The stories, music and child interviews are fabulous.

Creative, soothing, and entertaining

Goodnight Moon & Other Sleepytime Tales is a favorite of four generations of my family. Building upon classic bedtime tales, the producers of this video have succeeded in blending beautiful graphics, terrific narration (esp. Susan Sarandon & Billy Crystal), and captivating songs (sung by Aaron Neville, Patti LaBelle & others). What makes this video special, though, is the interspersing of childrens' comments--sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant--about sleep, dreams, and nightmares.

Few bright spots in massively boring tape

This tape is a major disappointment, and does not deliver anything like the experience one would expect from reading the listing here or the box label. Expect lots of music from major stars? Forget it -- maybe 3.5 songs total. Expect lots of colorful, stimulating animation? Two tiny doses. Lots of stories? Only three. Overall, it is barely the 26 minutes claimed -- following multiple ads for other tapes. Yes, one hears Tony Bennett for a bit, but the song is so short, it appears to have been used only as music for the opening credits. The title piece, narrated by Susan Sarandon, is nearly the only worthwhile visual experience in the whole tape. The other is a sort of visual accompaniment to Aaron Neville's singing, but that is also quite short. The tape is so visually dead that the producers resorted to *re-using* images from the title story -- intercutting pieces from the title story over the on-camera kid interviews that take up much of the program. What baby or toddler on earth is going to watch endless talking head interviews? Our son watches many other videotapes and TV shows in rapt attention, but this one lost him as soon as they went from animation to interviews. The later animation was too dull to get him interested again. One is led to expect a colorful, musical experience with big-name performers wall-to-wall. It's not here, folks! Instead there are lots of interviews with kids, cute for a parent to listen to, but useless for a very young viewer, particularly in the pre-verbal stage. Above all, the ''great performances'' hyped on the box are few and far between, which makes it feel like a rip-off.

Goodnight Moon Video

This is a ''must have'' for your child's video library! After previewing the copy we borrowed from the local library, my two-year-old and four-year-old begged me for a Goodnight Moon video of their own. It brings to life a beloved bedtime story, introduces a couple of new ones, and serenades your child with several soothing lullabies--a perfect prelude to sleepytime. The priceless childrens' interview clips interpersed among the stories and lullabies are most entertaining (even for adults) and will keep your son or daughter riveted to the screen. I whole-heartedly recommend this well-produced video!

Worth the money

This video takes the place of bedtime reading at least once a week. Aaron Neville's Brahms' Lullabye is wonderful. My 2 1/2 daughter thinks that reading Goodnight Moon is too slow, but she loves the video. All in all, quite a nice change from any of the videos which we can all sing the songs from in our sleep.
