Sometime in the late '50s, the art director of Esquire Magazine, Art Kane, thought of a great idea for a memorable photograph. On a steamy hot day in Harlem, he called together the greatest names in jazz and posed them in a group picture. The story behind the shot is the subject of A Great Day in Harlem. The Spitball Story recalls trumpet virtuoso Dizzy Gillespie who was infamous for his practical jokes.
