Barnes & Noble
Nearly two decades before Hooters became an American cultural institution, "Hooterville" was the place to be -- both for toothsome belles in sexy outfits on Petticoat Junction, and for its sister show, Green Acres. One of the all-time great fish-out-of-water sitcoms, Green Acres offered Eddie Albert as Oliver Wendell Douglas, a big-time lawyer from New York who left the big city behind in response to his inner voice's calling, buying a dilapidated farm outside Hooterville and moving there with his pampered wife, Lisa Eva Gabor. A textbook ditz uniquely unqualified for the rural life, Lisa reluctantly adapts to the farm over the course of this first season, bonding especially well with the various critters, while never relinquishing her Park Avenue glamour and wardrobe. Other regulars on board from Season 1 included the neighbors Fred and Doris Ziffel Hank Patterson and Barbara Pepper, general store owner Sam Drucker Frank Cady, handyman Eb Dawson Tom Lester, and Mr. Haney Pat Buttram the wily wheeler-dealer who sold Oliver the farm in the first place.

    I Also Recommend:

Green Acres- Is the Place To Be!

From the catchy theme song to Lisa Douglas' beautiful clothing, from the outlandish homestead to the crazy folks of Hooterville, this DVD is a lot of fun! It is a zany, off-beat comedy show. The beginning episodes tell the story as to how the stylish New York city couple, Lisa and Oliver Wendall Douglas come to live in small town Hooterville. Stars Eva Gabor and Eddy Albert have a wonderful on-screen relationship and the love between them is charming. The characters in town include the forgetful Hank Kimball, the Monroe Brothers- Ralph and Alf, Arnold Ziffle the talented pig, Eb Dawson farmhand, and the ever-present salesman Mr. Hanney. These characters are played by some big name old time stars such as Pat Butram (from Gene Autry Show). I think there has not been another show like this on TV before or since Green Acres. It is a very funny show and I think it has even become better with age. Highly recommended!

    My Kids Like This Series

I watched this show when I was a kid. Now my pre-teen boys find this series highly entertaining. They asked me to get the second season. I just ordered it. The characters are unique, the jokes are still funny many years later (especially the hot cakes/cooking saga of Lisa), and the down home innocence is refreshing. Even my four year old is getting into it. She runs around saying "Molly Turgiss, Molly Turgiss!"

    It Gets Better with Age

One of the most under-rated series, 'Green Acres' is an outstanding program. It gets better with age, and with each viewing.
