Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Overview

Those mischievous green terrors are back for seconds in Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Warner has done a very presentable job at making sure this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen print looks very crisp and clean. Aside of just a smidgen of edge enhancement, this picture appears to boast sharp, detailed colors and well defined black levels.

The soundtrack is presented in a newly remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround mix in English, along with a Dolby 2.0 Surround track in English, French and Spanish. The 5.1 mix does a fine job of making sure the soundtrack is crystal clear, though directional effects are rather slim and spotty. All aspects of the soundtrack are free of any hiss or distortion. Also included on this disc are English, French and Spanish subtitles. Warner has gone the extra mile to throw a few extra features on this disc, starting with a commentary track by director Joe Dante and producer Mike Finnell. This is mildly funny track that features multiple stories about the cast, effects and difficulties working with little green puppets. A gag reel of funny flubs is included, as well as an entertaining behind-the-scenes featurette which is a parody of other boring featurettes found on most discs. An ample amount of deleted footage running over 20 minutes is included with optional commentary and allows viewers to see what ended up on the cutting room floor. Finally there is a goofy game called "The Gremlins Files," a theatrical trailer for the film, and a list of the cast and crew members.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Eschewing the typical progression of a horror movie series toward more and more gore, Gremlins 2: The New Batch was a refreshingly lighter sequel. The original's violence and mean-spiritedness are gone, making this follow-up somewhat more kid-friendly. Better yet, the film lays on the in-jokes, references, and humorous cameos to such a degree that New Batch becomes a send-up of the original, and of creatures-gone-awry horror films in general. Each sequence is tacked onto the next like a new room in a funhouse, exploiting an image or gag that relates only tangentially to the storyline; the mid-film all-Gremlin production number of "New York, New York" is particularly inspired.

    Crap!

I spent 15 bucks on this movie and it really lets you down. I mean, C'mon! I mean, it is entertaining but... I watched Gremlins more than 5 times the 1st month I bought it! I watched this only once the entire time. Buy at a very low price. I woulda given this a one except Spike. Spike is awesome!

    A Great New Batch

This movie is the best kind of sequel, only Billy, Gizmo, Kate and the Forresters return, the rest of the cast is fresh faces. The plot is original, Mr. Clamp is a man you love to hate, along with all of his professional cronies. The experiment gone wrong gremlins are wonderful. The spider gremlin, bat gremlin and vegetable gremlin create all new kinds of havoc. This movie is a satiristic look at corporate life and the usual horror movie sequels. It is unbelievable!

Gremlins 2: The New Batch is a must see!

This movie rocks! I never get bored of this stuff. ''Gremlins'' was ok, but the sequel is far better. If you like to watch creatures hilariously wreaking havoc then this is the movie for you! I'd love to see this movie on DVD in the future!
