    Touching!

Although this story line would not have played out this way today, it is a beautiful story of the relationship bond that develops between a man and his dog.

I cried so hard I had to resort to paper towels!!!

Now I fully undsrstand why GOD spelled backwards is DOG! I dare anyone to watch this movie & not weep, or to have a new found respect for the precious dogs in our lives. Kudos to all involved in the making of this film. Still crying!

    Endearing

Animal lovers will love this movie. Perhaps the script could have been more complex, but the overall loyalty between a dog and the man he loves is inspiring.

    Such a great movie!

Such a wonderful movie, and based on a true story. Bonus--good for the whole family--an all-too-rare thing these days. We've seen it twice, and are now buying copies for my childtren and grandchildren to have for their own.

    Heartwarming storyline

This movie is the best I've seen in a long time. The storyline is amazing and surprisingly a true story. I'm quite dissapointed it did'nt go to theaters, because I think it would be more well known. I have never seen any thing as special as this movie. It is a pure symbol of loyalty. Don't forget the tissue, because you will need the whole box....believe me!

This story will break your heart!!!!

It is beyond believe how much this movie touched me. I am a big fan of Richard Gere, as well as Joan Allen. Both are great actors, but the star of this movie is Hachi. What a beautiful animal! Of course the bond between humans & their dogs go back thousands of years, but the love this animal had for his master is beyond belief. But be prepared to cry. You don't need just a couple of tissues, you'll need the whole box. I sobbed uncontrolably & even when I told friends about the movie, I cried. Just writing this is bringing a lump to my throat & tears to my eyes. I know what I am going to write at this time is not a good thing, but I will not watch this movie again...or at least for a very, very long time. It breaks my heart too much.

    A True Warm Fuzzy

For anyone who loves dogs this is a delight! The bond between man/woman and dog is generally indescribable. You have to "be there." You have to know the joy of being welcomed home by a furry little (or big) four-legged friend. You have to understand the unconditional love of a dog for its master, and the pure pleasure that it enjoys with a stroke of its fur or a scratch of its ears. You're "there" with Hachi -- from the opening scene right through the inevitable heartbreaking ending, and it's worth every minute. It's sweet and simple, and would not be appreciated by anyone who does not know the joy of a Hachi; but for those who do it's pure joy!

Dog lover or not. Here's a great true story for you!

HACHI is a wonderful story. Maybe because it is true but especially because of Richard Gere's devotion to his role which seemed apparant to me. Of course I may be predjudiced. This film was shot in Rhode Island,
partly in Bristol with the bulk of it in the city of Woonsocket. The train station where a great deal of the movie takes place and the buildings and area around it are very familiar to me since I lived in Woonsocket for many years.

I always felt that if a film went from production to DVD that it must be just a so so movie. I was dead wrong . This fine movie changed my mind.
Check this one out. You'll love it.

    A story like no other....

I first heard about this movie while watching an episode of Dogs 101 on Animal Planet when they were covering Akitas. I was amazed to know this was based on a true story. This movie displays the unique bond of loyalty between dog and owner which hit home quite a bit with me as a dog owner. The directory beautifully and artfully tells this true story while capturing the essence of this unique dog. More than a movie with a cute puppy in it, it's a must see for anyone who knows what it is to love a pet.

    What a touching Movie!!

I never cried so much in my whole life..I guess I knew the story it is based on. The story about a bond between a dog and his master! I saw it with my sister and we tried not to show each other that we were crying! hahaha! It was so sad that Hachi didn't know his master was not gonna come home. Great movie to share!

    Missing My Master.

The story of Hachi is endearing. How do our pets handle their emotions when their owner dies? How do they manage to receive closure? What does Hachi do after Parker H. Wilson's death? We learn through Hachi's experience love, loyalty, and friendship. A wonderful tale is provided for viewers in this DVD. This tale is heart-warming as well as sad. It will pull on your heartstrings and your emotions. The storyline and character development make for a great DVD. CAUTION: after watching this DVD you may want to watch or read something uplifting & funny; a comedy.

A "Must See" for Akita Owners

I adopted my first Akita from our local Humane Society in 1989. He became an amazing companion. I then went on to purchase registered Akitas and participated in many CKC dog events during the following years. Over the past 20 years, I have owned and trained 6 Akitas. Sadly, my last Akita passed away in October 2009. She was just shy of her 13th Birthday (life-span on an Akita is 10-12 years). Having read the story of Hachiko, naturally I wanted to see this movie. Given my love of the breed and history with them, I wanted to purchase this movie so I would have my own copy to enjoy.

Knowing that I would probably be emotional viewing this movie, I got out the box of tissues. Good thing, because you need the tissue! This movie is everything I hoped that it would be. They captured the loyalty between dog and owner in a way that only an Akita owner can relate to. Now that I own a Shiba Inu, I could also relate to the young Hachi (played by Shiba dogs) too. Richard Gere is also one of my favorite actors. So, with a favorite actor, a breed that you are passionate about, and a storyline that you're already familiar with, having a successful movie is a lot to live up to. However, this movie met all of my expectations and is now my new all time favorite movie.

Even if you haven't owned an Akita but enjoy family movies, I would highly recommend this movie. It clearly expresses the bond between dog and owner. The loyalty and dedication are mutual. Just a fabulous movie for families!

The DVD also highlights the making of the movie. This portion is also very well done. It really gives you insight into how the dogs were trained to play the roll of Hachi. This DVD is just excellent in all areas. I would highly recommend this to others. Definitely a "must see" for Akita owners!

    A "TOUCH YOUR HEART" MOVIE

THE FACT THAT THIS IS BASED ON A TRUE STORY MAKES IT A MUST SEE. THE LOYALTY THAT THIS DOG SHOWED TO HIS OWNER WAS UNBELIEVABLE. AND THE BOND THEY BOTH SHARED WAS HEARTWARMING. I HAVE CRIED THRU SOME MOVIES BEFORE, BUT THIS ONE WAS THE ONE THAT TOUCHED MY HEART, MARLEY AND ME WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THIS ONE. I HAD EVERYONE AT MY WORKPLACE WATCH THIS MOVIE, AND ALL OF THEM HAD THE SAME FEELINGS. I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL FEEL THE SAME.

    Hachie: A Dog's Tale

I loved it, but my husband cannot watch it because it is depressing to him - as well as to a number of our friends. It gives an accurate story of this dog who is quite famous in Japan. However, Gere's performance is quite weak.
