Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Adam Goldberg
Nostalgia for the '70s continues in Half Baked, a light-headed comedy that joins films like Dazed and Confused and Up in Smoke in the venerable "stoner genre." The bawdy storyline proudly teems with sex and drugs, and is not intended for those who find no humor in marijuana use. Director Tamra Davis starts out the stoned story on a "high" note, as the four main characters discover pot during the ninth grade. Unfortunately, the structure soon collapses and the countless pot jokes become repetitive. The humor evaporates altogether whenever the film focuses on the tepid love story between Dave Chappelle and Rachel True. However, strong performances from Jim Breuer and Harland Williams elevate many of the bland scenes, and Chappelle's performance as Sir-Smoke-A-Lot is absolutely hysterical. The movie also features a number of wonderful cameos, including Willie Nelson, Tommy Chong, and Snoop Doggy Dog. While Chappelle's film cannot rival those of grass gurus Cheech and Chong, many thick-skinned moviegoers in the mood to thumb their noses at political correctness may find merit in this drugged-out effort.

    Dumb Zooted!!

This is one of the best movies i've ever seen. It's hilarious to watch when your in a good mood. David Chapelle is one of the funniest men alive. He has comedy that can make you laugh and not have to think about it. The movie is very entertaining and full of non-stop action. This is a type of movie that you can watch over and over again without it getting old.

    Entirely Baked

A simple mistake of feeding a diabetic police horse candy while on a munchy run lands the always friendly Kenny in jail, prompting his stoner friends to try to bail him out before he loses his ''sweet virginity.''' Time is running short for Kenny. The sexual predator Nasty Nate is always after him and his protector, the Squirrel Master, is only weeks from leaving prison. This prompts his three friends to begin to sell marijuana stolen from a government research facility. Everything appears to be running smoothly until problems with the police, female relationships, and other drug dealers arrise. Comedy is a constant throughout Half Baked and many memorable scenes can be laughed about long after the movie is over.
