John Carpenter was a mastermind at horror, and was creating movies ever since he was a child. Only in his late teens he created a movie so suspensful, it left audiencies screaming out of their minds, and that's what John Carpenter did. Debra Hill, Carpenter's then girlfriend, decided to make a film to die for. They came up with a movie titled HALLOWEEN, because there was no such movie with no such name. Jamie Lee Curtis was an unknown acctress in an unknown show, and really only known for being the mother of the famous Janet Leigh in PSYCHO. Carpenter was inspired by PSYCHO because of Jamie, and that's what made HALLOWEEN the classic it is today. Imagine being in a neighbor and suddenly somebody starts chasing after you, with a butcher knife, a hauntly white ghost mask, and a truck driver's suit, after he has killed all of your friends and is now out for you. And every time you kill him, he awakens and just gets madder. It's an evil entity that will never die, and somewhere inside HALLOWEEN, their is an evil entity.

This however has great suspense, atmosphere and doesn't rely on gore. After escaping from a mental institution Michael Myers goes after Laurie Strode and her friends while they're babysitting on Halloween night. All the while Dr. Loomis goes after Myers as he tries warning the town of Myers return. Everyone was good in their roles especially Donald Plesance (RIP) as the memorable Dr. Loomis. Still a creepy yet great film years later. Recommend this for any horror nor non horror fan, a must for your movie collection.

This movie is a jewel in the crown of the horror genre. It put John Carpenter on the map and moved horror from neck biting vampires, walking reanimates and mutant bugs to a new level of terror. Donald Pleasance plays a doctor trying to destroy the evil unleashed, Jamie Lee Curtis, P.J. Soles and Nancy Loomis play wide eyed teenagers about to face a terror previously unthinkable. Your pulse races, your neck hair bristles, your muscles tense and you will never feel safe on Halloween Again!!!

Laurie Strode is your average baby-sitting teenager. On Halloween though, she sees a strange, masked figure standing outside her high school. He stalks Laurie and her friends during the day and at night he starts killing them one by one.

This was probably the first of it's kind that I ever saw, and I still love it to this day. It sits amongst the collection pieces in my DVD collection. If you have never seen this film...where in the world have you been? Definitely give it a watch. Of course, I suppose that this generation would not probably view it the same, but it's still redefined horror as we knew it. A definite great!

A genuine horror film. Still a favorite to watch on Halloween.

This is the classic that set the standard for the modern day slasher film along with my other favorite series, Friday the 13th (1980).

Same goes for halloween the original version, but, like any horror film classic, its worth a watch. I wouldnt neccesarily buy it, I would catch it on AMC or Sci-Fi around Halloween. I have a guilty pleasure for these kind of films and if you arent into tastless killings dont bother with this film.

Halloween may not have been the first slasher film (try the original Black Christmas), but it sure did popularize the genre and usher in a new era filled with loads of gore, frights, and downright fun from other such classic characters like Jason Voorhees (from Friday the 13th) and Freddy Krueger (from A Nightmare on Elm Street). The DVD itself is awesome, with a nice clean remastering of Halloween to keep the film's hackings and slashings looking as sharp (no pun intended) as ever. The bonus features are not that plentiful (although there is a wonderful documentary), but the sheer perfection of the terror that Halloween fills you with easily makes up for it. This DVD is a must-have for any movie-buffs collection--whether you like horror films or not, there is no denying "the one, the only, the classic, Halloween!"

I loved the original. It was the first horror movie I saw in the theater as a kid. It was scary fun! The Rob Zombie version expands on Micheal's upbringing & it is good! He did a great job with a classic!!! BUY IT if you love scary movies! I loved both!!

Halloween was a good movie and how there was a surprise around every corner. But the new one was better.

It's especially fun to see John Carpenter's old school classic after seeing Rob Zombie's excellent prequel/remake/tribute. Compare. Contrast. Discuss.

He just doesn't do allot of projects anymore. Not because he's too old, but because nobody will take his screenplays anymore. It's like they all think he's a taletless bum who should've never made it in the film business. But in Hallowee, made in three-hundred-thousand dolars, proves that Carpenter is one of the most talented film makers that ever walked this earth. He shows almost no blood in the film, uses very little backlight, and he masterfully builds up the suspence and releases it when you least expect it. I have a copy of the original screenplay, and it is great. I want to be a writer when I get older, and I hope that I'll one day be able to impress as much as he did.

Everytime the music to this film comes on, I get scared and I already don't want to see this film. But I do anyway. This was the very first film that introduces us to the slasher movies. The film opens up with Michael Myers bruttaly murdering his sister. About ten or twelve years later he breaks out of a mental hospital to kill his other sister: Laurie Strode who's now adopted. On the pursuit of Michael is his doctor, Dr. Loomis. What makes Michael the scariest slasher in history is his breathing under that mask. Did Jason ever breath after wearing that hockey mask for so long? No. Michael breathes so scary it might even give Darth Vader a run for his money. But the doctor says something about Michael I will never forget. "See when I treated this boy. He had something different about him. When I searched inside of him and got to know him. I knew he couldn't be saved. And do you know why? With his pale, blank face and the darkest eyes... the devil's eyes." Scary isn't it? After this movie, it went all down hill from there. Horror movies today are just blood baths. The writer or the directors don't make you remember that killer or that victom. They make you throw up. I wanna see a movie where you sleep with the light on and pray for the light of dawn. Halloween does that. Michael isn't like Freddy Kruger or Jason Vorhees. He is someone believable and he makes you want to look at your neighbor's front door and see if he is dragging your neighbors body out to the bushes. I think we should pay less attention to Freddy or Jason and give Michael the credit. Without him they would not of become popular or started those stupid horror movies you people like today. Once you see this movie, you have officially seen a horror movie. If you don't want to be scared. Fine. Just go see that Texas Chainsaw Massacare and see if it's scary. I gaurentee you'll be regreting that Chinese food you had earlier.

This is the movie that introduces us to the killer Michael Myers who escapes from his confinement in search of a teen named Laurie, after taking care of 1st sister Judith. The next character we come to know is Dr. Loomis who tries to keep Meyers at bay. This is the one that got me into horror movies, and love the way the creepy piano music wcomes on, warning the audience that something's going to happen. That's just how a movie should be. A classic already in the making.

I love this movie a lot. I rented this for when I had a sleepover at my friend's house. My friend and I watched it late at night. After I wnt to sleep, all I could think about was the movie. In my mind I was walking through a room with dorrs and every one I looked through there stood Mike with a knife in his hand. To make a long story short, I would definitely recommend this.
