Overview

Filmmaker Rob Zombie returns to Haddonfield for this Dimension Films sequel that finds the murderous psychopath Michael Myers (once again played by Tyler Mane) out on the loose again. The film picks up where the last one left off. Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) survives an attack by her mental-patient brother, Michael Myers, whom she doesn't know is related to her. On the way to the morgue, the ambulance carrying Michael crashes and, miraculously, the killer survives and heads out into the countryside, his body never recovered by the authorities. In the meantime, the madman's doctor, Samuel Loomis (Malcolm McDowell), has turned into a media whore on the cusp of superstardom with the release of his exposé on the horrific happenings presented in the previous film. As time ticks down to Halloween night, Michael, now living in a barn and urged on by the spirit of his dead mother and his younger self, is driven to seek out his sister once again.

After the mediocre first chapter, here comes part 2... Though this pic is a little more ambitious than the 2007's HALLOWEEN, it is still only an ok time filler for those looking for some over the top violence. The cast, which is basically back for more from the 2007 pic does pretty well... The stand out's are Danielle Harris and a brief but great cameo by Margot Kidder. Brad Dourif and Malcolm McDowell provide good support. Tyler Mane makes a HUGE, and very brutal Michael Myers. As with Part One, the weakest performance belongs to the new Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton). Though better in this pic, she pales alongside the rest of the veteran cast, especially Danielle Harris (who plays Annie). Some of the visuals are quite arresting, others, downright scary (like the house Annie and Laurie live in... JEEZ, what a wreck). The violence, like Part One, is way over the top. And, of course, why does this new Michael Myers have to DESTROY his victims? Enough already, they died after the first 90 mile per hour stab of your 12 foot butcher knife... did you really have to stab them 75 more times? As stated before, the plot is a little more ambitious this time around. In fact, those fans of David Lynch will be amused at some of the "dream" like sequences in the pic... Also, it has some uncanny shots that were in the original HALLOWEEN 2... impressive. Still only 3 stars, but a decent enough time filler. But, be warned, the violence is BRUTAL and the language is just as bad...

This review is directed to anyone that is a fan of the original "Halloween" series. Just like it's predecessor this film is a total waste of time. "Halloween II" like "Halloween I" is primarily a rip-off of the "Friday the 13th" concept. Mr. Zombie should just stick to his comfort zone in Heavy Metal music rather than remaking classic films. Now, I hear that he is remaking "The Blob"! Just like the two Halloween films he wrote/directed, I am pretty sure this one is going to be a disaster as well. Overall, don't bother buying this film like I did. Just wait until it becomes available on cable. If you want to watch a true classic then see the original "Halloween" directed by John Carpenter and it's first sequel, because those are the only films worth watching!
