Overview

Brad Anderson directs Oscar winner Marisa Tomei and Vincent D'Onofrio in Happy Accidents, which comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Anderson and D'Onofrio, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a solid release from MGM/UA that should help the film find a wider audience.

Editorial Reviews

New York Times - Stephen Holden
Unlike the typical Hollywood romance, its belief in happily-ever-after, even if it has to come from the fourth dimension, feels authentic.

I came across this movie by accident, and I coulden't have been happier. I was passing through the sci-fi section of the local video store, on my way to the comedy section, when this movie caught my eye. I normally woulden't even think about renting a science fiction movie, but when I saw that Marisa Tomei and Vincent D'Onofrio (the fabulous, handsom actor from Law and Order: Criminal Intent) were in it I picked it up. The synopsis said that it was supposed to be romantic and a comedy to boot, so I rented it. This has to be one of the best movies I have recently seen. Marisa Tomei is at her finest (but isn't she always?) as a neurotic woman who dates strange sorts of men and runs straight to her therapist with any problems in relationships, and I was so pleased to see Vincent D'Onofrio in a comedic role, which is quite a change from what he plays in Law & Order. The sparks flew and these actors portrayed their characters perfectly. At heart, Happy Accidents is simply a quirky, modern love story.

If one wants to watch a mentally invigorating movie, this is it. You may need to watch it several times to get the gist of the wild fast running maze journey. With its fine job of realness showing of raw human emotions, it's refreshing to see realistic portrayal of lovers.
