When I first heard about it, I was interested. The plot is simple, and at times predictable. But by the end still managed to leave me satisfied. It also supplies the perfect sort of twisted humor that I enjoy. For the budget and time spent on producing the film - it comes out better than one might expect of it. I'd say at the very least it's worth one view.

My friend and I were sitting at his house, nothing to do, and I saw this DVD sitting on his table. He immediately acted like he had been meaning to remind me to watch this for some time now. He told me I had to see it, it's an incredible film, and it has 'that girl from Juno in it'. We had nothing to do for a few hours so I gave in. Throughout the entire film I was predicting scene after scene. There was one thing I didn't see coming near the end, but the very end comes at you with headlights on and a blaring horn you cannot expect anything different. This movie is ridiculously unrealistic, both Page and Wilson could accurately mark this on their resume as their worst acting documented on disc, and as I have stated a few times, it is very predictable. If you pride yourself on the amount of movies you've seen, then by all means add this to your mental collection, but don't pop it in expecting satisfaction (slight ironic pun coordinated with film).

This movie has some really great twists in it. While some of the situations could be deemed as over the top or disturbing, I think they really work. This is an exciting movie with a great female heroine who decides to take the law into her own hands.

Relentlessly fierce characters. Ellen Page is amazing, and patrick wilson does a great job it's hard to decide whom to feel for. Full of suspense, and with Hard Candy's difficult topic, it's not something you will soon forget. Shocking.

This movie got fairly good reviews and many people seemed to find the content rather disturbing. "Two good reasons to own it" I thought. WRONG! This movie wasn't very disturbing at all. Me and my girlfriend watched it together and partway through we had to admit to ourselves that it was a bad movie. The girl's acting in this movie was really bad but according to my girlfriend the guy in this movie is usually a good actor and his performance was bad as well, which leads me to believe that they were just working with a bad director. It wasn't necessary an awful movie, just not worth the time it took to watch it.

A unique story that will definitely keep your attention. Classic situation where the preditor becomes the prey. Ellen page is a pretty amazing little actress in this one. Great story and very well done.

The topic of pedophile has been revisited once again following the recent slew of similarly-themed shows like the ‘Woodsman’ and ‘Mysterious Skin.’ But this time round, pedophile isn't the theme of the show it is simply a cat-and-mouse-ish thriller between a teenage girl and a suspected pedophile. This movie is dark hell, what story about pedophile wouldn't be, and the acting is nothing short of excellent. Both characters are extremely convincing and both shock in their respective ways. Brian Nelson's intelligent script is abound with surprising twists, dark humor and bitter exchanges which will provoke discussions among viewers. Hayley (Ellen Page) is convincing as the teenage girl with a vigilante agenda, and Jeff (ambiguous Patrick Wilson) is good as well. Just that their characters don't seem to be very realistic. A teenage girl endangering her life into a pedophile's house just to expose his dark secret? Featuring some truly disturbing scenes but nothing explicit. The biggest flaw though is that I'm not sure exactly who the makers wanted us to root for, because the girl is portrayed as mildly unhinged and explicitly psychotic, while the alleged pedophile comes across as the victim who frankly we want to side with. Surely if he's the bad guy, we want the girl to succeed and to truly torment him, but in this film we are forced to side with the pedophile which is quite disturbing to me. However, overlooking this is the simple fact that for the performances alone and the quality of the considered direction giving us some heart-pounding suspense. ‘Hard Candy’ is a fine piece of cinema that offers a great deal in comparison to other movies produced nowadays and, consequently, deserves more attention.

Don't worry. I won't give away the ending to this highly provocative drama! I will say that that Ellen Page is poised to be a HUGE star, and should have her pick of acting jobs in the near future. The idea of a film dealing with child predators is nothing new, but the twist in the story comes when the hunter and the hunted keep switching positions! The "operation" scene is definitely NOT for the faint of heart, and Sandra Oh is sorely misused as the nosy neighbor. But this is a very decent film witty and disturbing at the same time.

Hard Candy is unrelentingly intense and sweat inducing---a movie that you won't soon forget. Tackling an important and troubling topic, Hard Candy effectively and chillingly reverses the role of child predator and prey. The subject is tough and unpleasant in what's destined to be a sleeper hit. This small, contained movie packs an emotional wallop. Rather than a huge budget, big name stars and cgi dependent dazzelment, this is low-budget American movie-making at its best---a movie that succeeds on a strong script, accomplished cast, confined setting and tight direction---remarkable whether a student of filmaking, scriptwriting, acting or fan of good cinema.If you're looking for substance and impact from a movie, and you're tired of the standard multi-plex fare, be sure to see this one.
