Have Gun Will Travel - The Complete Third Season

Overview

Not only was Have Gun, Will Travel America's third most popular series during the 1959-60 season, but the series had also spawned a spin-off radio program -- thereby reversing the usual procedure, in which a successful radio show was brought to television à la Gunsmoke. But while John Dehner was being heard as intellectual gun-for-hire Paladin on the radio version, the star of the TV series remained, as ever, Richard Boone.

Season three of Have Gun, Will Travel gets under way with the episode "First, Catch a Tiger," directed by Ida Lupino, in which Paladin agrees to take on an assignment that has already cost the lives of two men. Future Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was the author of the season's next two half-hours, "Episode in Laredo" and "Les Girls." A few weeks later, Paladin takes on his strangest assignment when he is hired to shoot his client...by his client! And in a subsequent episode, Hogan's Heroes co-star Werner Klemperer is cast as a Frenchman who hires Paladin to deliver a valuable cargo: a plate glass window. And so it goes until the season's final episode "The Search," wherein Paladin finds more than he's bargained for when he agrees to find the long-lost son of a dying woman. This episode was directed by series star Richard Boone; it was not the first such double-duty assignment, and it certainly would not be the last.
