Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
It all starts with a murder. Mohinder Suresh's Sendhil Ramamurthy father, a geneticist in New York who is doing research into people with extraordinary abilities, is slain by a serial killer named Sylar Zachary Quinto. Mohinder travels to Manhattan and discovers his father has identified hundreds of people with superhuman powers across the globe -- many of whom are suddenly turning up dead. Thus begins the labyrinthine tale of Heroes, a part comic book, part X-Men, part sci-fi mystery series that began in September 2006 on NBC. What at first appears to be a run-of-the-mill superhero series becomes a nuanced drama when Mohinder's research starts bringing seemingly unconnected people together. These gifted individuals include Nathan Petrelli Adrian Pasdar, a politician with the ability to fly, and his brother Peter Milo Ventimiglia, whose true power isn't immediately evident. They, in turn connect other characters together, such as Claire Bennet Hayden Panettiere, the Texas cheerleader who can't die, and her father Jack Coleman, a paper factory manager who's not what he seems; Hiro Nakamura Masi Oka, the Japanese office worker who can warp time; Isaac Mendez Santiago Cabrera, who can paint the future; Matt Parkman Greg Grunberg, a cop who can hear people's thoughts; Niki Sanders Ali Larter, a woman with an identity problem, and her gifted son Micah Noah Gray-Cabey. Heroes unfolds like a comic book tale, and viewers may be amazed at the complexity that slowly develops over the season's 23 episodes. It's surprising at moments, too; don't expect favorite characters to survive the fantastic first season. This seven-disc set also has tons of bonus features, such as the original 73-minute pilot episode that never aired on TV, deleted scenes, featurettes, and more.

Great for beginners and Heroes Fans alike

This is one if the greatest series on television now. Season One is chock full of great twists, sci-fi action, but also romance, betrayal, and emotions. It is the story of what would happen to real people who find out that they have special powers. Enjoy!!!!

    I Also Recommend:

    Addictive, Memorial, Sensational

The characters, plot, events- everything was just so unique and obviously planned out in a way to involve the viewer in every twist and turn. The elaborate plot twist draw the reader in and develop a "need" to see what happens next. The characters are so real & lovable that you can never forget them. This is the best show/movie i have ever seen in my life. Wow.

    more from this reviewer

I love me some Clair Bear.

I have to admit that I didn't watch one episode of Heroes on network TV but when a friend lent me this DVD set, I couldn't keep my eyes off it. It took me two ten hour days to finish it but it was well worth it. This Season is by far greater than the 2nd one but that was because Season 2 dragged early on and was cut about 6-8 episodes short due to the writer's strike. If you don't become a fan boy after sitting through this season, I just can't understand.

    more from this reviewer

Oh Heroes, where did you go wrong after this awesome season?

Season 1 was smart, sophisticated, and you never knew what was going to happen next with each character. As the (many!) characters each discovered their abilities, you were drawn in to their stories. Masi Oka as Hiro is great comic relief, but you also get swept along with his need to control his abilities. Jack Coleman as Horned Rimmed Glasses Guy makes you cheer (and tear up) by the episode "Company Man."

    Amazing!

This show is really and truly outstanding. And, for all those comic book fans out there who are at once interested and wary of checking this show out, have no fear! Jeph Loeb, who has written for both Marvel and DC, and who wrote the incredible Batman graphic novel &amp quot The Long Halloween&amp quot , is a co-producer and a writer on the show! In addition, the comic books and some other art by Isaac Mendez in the show are all the work of Tim Sale, the illustrator of &amp quot The Long Halloween&amp quot and countless other comic book greats! This show is true to the spirit of superheroes, but is given a more realistic and relatable spin as far as characters and plot are concerned. It's definitely worth watching!

Heroes - Although in a way cliche its still a pretty good show

I remember I saw the end of a commercial for the show and that was it. Then I was clicking through channels and just got the pilot ep for Heroes. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not and so started watching more and loved it. My fave characters has to be Peter, later in the first season Sylar, Matt, Hiro (Yatta!), too many to choose from but you get the idea. This is the story that involves something from comics (particulary x-men) and shows us the lives of different people who discover that each of them have a power. Fave eps in the first season have to be: of course the pilot, Homecoming, Six Months Ago, Fallout, Five Years Gone and How To Stop an Exploding Man (who didn't expect to have a better fight between Sylar and Peter)? So yeah if you love comics superheroes then check out this show.

    Not your predictable hero cliche

This show can be quite dark at times, showing perhaps the real struggle that people with abilities would need to face. Do you use said abilities to help yourself and your loved ones or do you sacrifice yourself for the greater good? Whose side are you on? No one wears special suits or has wrist watch communicator devices on this show. It's alot more of 'wake up, find you have a special ability, how does this apply to my world' kind of shows. Time travel, teleportation, flight, hyper-regeneration, super strength, radiation manipulation, telekinesis, super hearing, and psionic abilities manifest themselves among others during this more realistic view of the characters. Season two is nearly over as I write this, and continues right where the original season left off.

    Amazing

I love this show so much. It has drama, action, romance, and a great storyline. If I would have to pick only one tv show to watch, it would be this one.

    Can't wait to get heroes

The thing I love about Heroes is that anything is possible. The characters are great! The stories are good too. I love the fact that the writers gave us some background info as we went along for the ride on the characters. Yay!

I hope that this show will last for a long long time. It is a definate much watch. The way the writers keep you on the edge of your seat through-out the season and each show is...well, the best. They are awesome!! They deserve it all. The actors are incredible!!!!! Keep watching so the show lasts for a long long time

    A reviewer

Heroes is a one of a kind show, there is nothing like it on television. Some sequences may come off low budget but overall the storytelling is what drives this show and such an amazing cast of characters that it moves the pace of the show right along. I mean even the villain, brain eating Sylar is likable in his grotesqueness and the episode where we see him with his mother, we see that he was once a normal guy. These are complex characters like the schizo Niki/Jessica, the comedic adventures of Hiro and Ando. This show is a must see!

    An Insider's View...

I have a bit of an advantage here, as the doctor for Viacom (and for the TV show Heroes)--mostly I get to give everyone flu shots, tend to sore throats and sprained ankles, but the sets are magnificent, the writers are brilliant, and the acting nuanced and subtle--everything I love in an unclassifiable, complex show. The DVD is better than anyone expected, with a ton of unseen footage, commentary by Tim, and..well, surprises! Enjoy!

    Finally!!

Finally a great tv show about heroes that aren't necessarily super. Don't get me wrong I love Batman, my favorite superheroe, and Superman and all of our other classics, but I love this show because its ordinary people. It's not because they're from other planets or because they were bitten by a bug that they are super, but because its genetics. What I like about the show is that if you believe in evolution this could possibly happen. We could all one day evolve into something else, gain or lose abilities and who knows one day we may all be able to travel through time. The show is great and as soon as you watch the first episode you'll be hooked.

Fast paced, but loses its edge.

Within just the pilot, Heroes will capture you completely - it's an almost perfect combination of twisted plots and fantastic characters, but near the end, Heroes begins to lose its edge. Not only is the season finale very disappointing, it's incredibly anticlimactic. However, as a whole, Heroes remains an amazing show. Give it a try!

This show is worthy of the Hype.

How could I not love anything with Milo Ventimiglia in it? The show is amazing and filled with some of the best actor on Tv. Anyone who doesn't give Heroes a shot is missing out.

    Heroes Season 1

An interesting show that's like something from the comics but good suspense no doubt. You basically have a group of people who turns out have powers and thus cope while there's a killer eating brains on the lose who's trying to hunt them one by one.
