Overview

Eric Valli's Tibetan drama Himalaya comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and does a fabulous job of capturing the film's superb location cinematography. The Tibetan soundtrack is impressively rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by the director in which he relates the struggles he had shooting the film, a nearly half-hour making-of documentary, an electronic press kit, and the original theatrical trailer. This is an excellent DVD from Kino.

Review title: Treacherous Terrain. *Intense. * Dramatic. *Suspenseful. *Engaging. *Gripping. *Succeed & survive or fail & sure death will come to the protagonists. *Viewers learn the importance of true leadership. *And learn how pride can impact decisions. Allows viewers to observe how pride guides decisions, and viewers receive some insight about respecting other people. **Has many tension-filled moments in this DVD. Some questions to consider: leadership - what type of leadership will viewers observe? And how does it impact the story's outcome. **Great DVD.

Moving, emotional, real. Great music for a true story. Breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Makes you want to go to Tibet!

An awesome film! A simple story told very well makes for a masterpiece of a film. The short film that tells how Himalaya was made gives a greater appreciation to this work of art.
