The no-nonsense coach (Terry O'Quinn) not only brings pride back to the team, but gives the town as a whole a glimmer of hope. The same tactics used in football--sacrificing individual goals and rather working for the sake of the team--becomes a metaphor for what the town needs to get back on its feet. Hometown Legend features Lacey Chabert and Nick Cornish. ~ Tracie Cooper

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Based on the book by Left Behind author Jerry B. Jenkins, this moving and inspirational drama is something of a miracle. It is a faith-based film that engages viewers without piling on profanity, sexual situations, and other inappropriate content. It is also a rousing sports drama that scores points for being more concerned with "tradition and pride" than the final score of the big game -- which, refreshingly, is not a foregone conclusion for the underdog team. Terry O'Quinn gives a winning performance as Coach Schuler, who returns to coach the Crusaders -- the once-mighty Athens, Alabama football team that has not had a winning season in 12 years (since the tragic on-field death of Schuler's son). Former Party of Five star Lacey Chabery costars as Rachel, the devout student who prays for God to help the Challengers return to their former glory and save the financially strapped school. Nick Cornish also stars as Elvis Jackson, a troubled newcomer and star player who finds something to believe in other than the college scholarship the teammates compete for. Hometown Legend, like The Rookie, restores one's faith in family films.
