Hookers/P.P.s.

Overview

The world's oldest profession goes under the microscope in two vintage sexploitation films brought to DVD in this double-bill release from Something Weird Video. The Hookers and P.P.S. -- Prostitutes Protective Society have both been transferred to disc in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1; both pictures look reasonably good and the transfers seem quite accurate, though the original photography wasn't exactly stellar for either movie, and the print for P.P.S. shows a bit of wear.

Both features are in English, with no multiple language options or subtitles included. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Mono, and the quality is as good as can be expected from the source materials. As is their custom, Something Weird have loaded up this disc with bonus material, starting with a third feature film, Meeting on 69th Street, a rough but entertaining movie that runs a shade under 60 minutes (and, like the other features, is in black-and-white and transferred in full-screen). Trailers for the two main features are also included, as well as previews of seven other exploitation items dealing with prostitution. A gallery of cover art from men's magazines devoted to sex films rounds out the package. Simply put, no other video company has devoted more time and energy to preserving the grimy legacy of American exploitation films than Something Weird, and this disc is just the kind of thing they do well and few other companies would even attempt; sleaze cinema fans will love it.
