Hopalong Cassidy: a True American Icon

Overview

As originally aired by NBC when television was still a young medium (1949 to 51), the western program Hopalong Cassidy drew from two different sources of material, cleverly packaged together as a new series. Overview

As originally aired by NBC when television was still a young medium (1949 to 51), the western program Hopalong Cassidy drew from two different sources of material, cleverly packaged together as a new series. One source was comprised of star William Boyd's old theatrical westerns, slightly reedited for television, with periodic voiceovers by Boyd and (on occasion) new scenes added in, matched up with the action. The second source was a series of new western films, generally running around an hour each, and starring Boyd, as well as Edgar Buchanan, as Hopalong's sidekick. Episodes typically dramatized Hopalong's pursuit of villains on his trusty horse Topper. This package presents ten episodes from the original theatrical adventures that were re-aired on the small screen - originally produced between 1935 and 1938. These include: Hopalong Cassidy Enters (1935), Bar 20 Rides Again (1935), Heart of Arizona (1938) and seven more.
