Oh I know, all the professional reviewers call Bela Lugosi ,Frank Langella, Michael Nouri,et al the definitive Dracula portrayals. Now I have seen and enjoyed them all, including the aforementioned gentlemen, but I also know who scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. When I saw Christopher Lee in Horror of Dracula I was hooked.I also slept with the light on for a week.In the many times I have seen this movie since I have never failed to notice how well it stands the test of time. The portrayal of the Count by Mr.Lee displays an elegance and nobility which indeed enhances the ferocity of the character. The combination of suspense, intensity and the talents of the sterling cast make this film just as fresh and exciting as it was in 1958.

Eiither you are a fan of the Universal horror releases or the Hammer films. If you have not developed a preference, then you should consider 'Horror of Dracula' as your initial venture into the genre. As a teen, I was thrilled & chilled by the late night TV fare. Christopher Lee was probably the best portrayer of the Count and Peter Cushing's Van Helsing has no equal in the role. This adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel more closely follows the story line than any other with the exception of the location not changing to England after the initial sequences featuring Jonathan Harker's visit to Castle Dracula. And although it took 8 years for a sequel, the sequels cannot match the original.

'Horror of Dracula' is one of the great Hammer Film horror classics. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are smashing in this movie that I've seen several times in the Saturday afternoon horror matinee downtown as a teenager. It's classic!
