Cabin Fever director Eli Roth skips the humor of his freshman feature and goes straight for the jugular in this unrelenting scare-fest about a pair of libidinous American backpackers seeking cheap thrills in the European countryside. Their carefree college days close behind and the responsibility of the real world looming ever closer on the horizon, Josh (Derek Richardson) and Paxton (Jay Hernandez) strap on their backpacks and prepare for a stratospheric last hurrah of booze, babes, drugs, and debauchery halfway across the globe. It's during a visit to Amsterdam that the pair meets up with raucous Icelandic backpacker Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson), and after the three globe-trotting thrill seekers catch wind of a Slovakian city whose male population has dwindled as a result of civil strife -- leaving the ladies ready and willing to accept any male companionship that might turn up at the local hostel -- the trio quickly beats a hasty retreat to the out-of-the-way oasis. Upon check-in, the trio is greeted by a bevy of beautiful locals and is quickly convinced that the hedonistic hideaway is indeed the real deal. Hazily awakening the following morning to find no trace of backpacking buddy Oli, Paxton chalks his former traveling companion's disappearance up to capriciousness and prepares for another day of debauchery, despite Josh's rapidly elevating sense of unease. Now trapped defenselessly in a foreign land without any means of escape and no way of anticipating the unimaginable hell that lies ahead, the pair is plunged into a torturous netherworld where the screams of the damned fill the air with dread and the warm rays of the sun are little more than a fading memory.

My favorite horror film would have to be Hostel. I dont watch alot of horror films due thier cheesy nature, but this one was memorable. I like horror films that are realistic and intresting. Hostel, is a great horror film because of the originallity and realism. - The movie is basically about a secret club, where members pay millions to murder kidnaped tourist. The member get to choose the manner in which they will murder their victoms. You can accually imagine some phycos doing this, chills run down the spine when watching the graphinc scences. -The best quality of the movie is its realism. The movie has exellent special effects. The movie seems very realistic and the actors are pretty decent. -Additionally, the thing that stood out was the originallity. Most horror films have been done before and its good to see something new. Its good to see something other than a zombie or stalker horror film. The plot of the movie was a pretty good idea. It makes me wonder when the writter got the inspiration. - In conclusion, Hostel is a great watch on dvd. The film has really good realism and special effects. The movie itself is intresting because of the originality. Im accually affraid just thinking about this movie. I know movies are fake but it does make me wonder if people like that really exist,
this movie stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm Italian and i run a hostel in Ushuaia, Argentina I was particularly surprised(but not that much in this crazy insane world) to know about a Thai site where they would actually do what happens in the movie. The movie itself has some good things and bad ones. The good(but difficul to watch because to me extremely scary) are the dark torture scenes and the overall atmosphere. the worst nightmare: Imagine being tied, handcuffed at a chair knowing that you will not get out alive while a crazy person plays with your pain, fear and parts of your body(cut a leg here, an ear there).Being totally dependent on the torturer's will for no reason. that's the scariest part, i think. the bad side of the movie is those kids that always appear all the time in many outdoors scenes(it seemed so stupid to me) and some other scenes. I don't understand why people complain about the nudity scenes. those girls are really beautiful and there's nothing to stop a guy to be in a dangerous situation if women are around. it's a reality
the movie was not intended to be scary... it movie was psychological then a guy in a mask running around in a womans dorm... this movie made me wonder what if? i am from poland and have stayed in hostels around europe... you need to keep your eye out for ppl....you never know where u might wake up...i loved it it was worth my time and i really felt bad for those guys and everyone in that hell...
This movie is dumb. There is nothing about this one but to show some gore and more gore. If you like this movie, you might want to have your head examined by a professional.
The much awaited and anticipated horror film Hostel was a complete failure. The story line was lacking in substance and it seemed they depended only on sex appeal and cheap scares to keep the viewer entertained, but it failed to even do that. For those few people with no decency and a craving for soft-core porn i do recomend this movie but for the rest of humanity, who i hope actually has a soul, you should run, not walk away from the movie. The characters are under-developed and lack intelligence which almost gives me a hope that they will die. The curse that this movie has afflicted on the world is terrible and i can only hope to save you from the pain of seeing the movie. I went with a hope of seeing some good gore and unique tortue devices but i was granted niether. The movies attempt at scaring the audience only succeeded in the beginning when they are forced to watch porn. Do not rent it. Do not buy it. Do not watch this movie for longer than half a second.
Welcome to your worst nightmare, backpacking across Europe and suddenly being lured as a victim to a murder-for-profit business. Eli Roth wrote and directed this movie and I for one think he did a great job!! It contains topless nudity and the torture, gore scenes might be a bit disturbing for some. The storyline is great and it seemed like it could really happen. I'm glad I added it to my DVD collection.
Trite, predictable plot -- even the sex scenes make you yawn. Uninteresting sets and locations. Cinematography straight out of the textbook. Dimensionless characters so poorly developed you can't like 'em, hate 'em, or be scared of 'em. (You just want to be rid of 'em! -- and to that extent only the film does provide some reward toward the end.) Special effects that are indeed grisly, but ultimatley neither impressive nor cathartic. A Hollywood happy ending (yes! even including a car chase!!) that is much more likely than the torture scenes to induce nausea. Lingering in the background, a weak political allegory that must have something to say about the post-Gulf Wars "New World Order" but says it so vaguely that it could be merely warmed-over puritanism. Maybe even anti-corporate satire -- who knows? If you liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you'd do better to watch it again than to watch this one. (Or for the travel angle, try If It's Tuesday It Must Be Belgium.) Undeniably the film will appeal to a certain kind of viewer: not film buffs, however, but more likely those who keep snakes as pets only because they eat live mice. What a movie.
This movie was excellent and well made and made me jump and scream plenty of times. I highly reccomend it to all horror fans. A little too much sex and nudity though
Great Movie! Had lots of suspenseful times, however those who are squemish should watch out, there was lots of blood. Great Plot and the scenes were very visually captavating.
This movie is ridiculous! Not scary at all, just stupid senseless gore we have seen in all the other movies. Poor story line, the only thing worse than the story line was the acting. Don't buy this, don't rent this. If you really want to see this movie, wait until a friend rents it or something. Save your time & money.
I loved how I was finally able to watch a scary and gory movie, without the sarcasm and perverse jokes. However, I do agree with another review of it showing a lot of nudity, for a horror movie.
This movie was god awful. The plot was lame and was basicly soft-core porn for the first 45 minutes. Afterwards the story (which was bad to begin with) went even further down hill. After all the hype I wanted to see this movie so bad, "The scarist movie of the year". I wanted to be scared during a movie for once, but sadly I left the theater disappointed. The only reason I would even recommend movie to someone is so they could see how bad it really was. If you actually enjoyed this movie, you have brain problems and should see a doctor and then go out and see a GOOD horror movie.
All i can say is this has to be the most freakiest gross out movies I have ever seen. Its about 2 guys who on vacation are lured into a dark and sinister place and then try to survive for the lives...literally.
If you are looking for a fright, don't watch Hostel and don't let the reviews on this page persuade you to either. Trust me. This movie sucks!!!I wanted to see this movie so bad because of the reviews and commercials and sneak peeks I saw. I also wanted to see it because Quinten Tarentino, someone I really look up to, was producing it. I went out and bought it expecting it to be a nightmare of torture with non stop blood and gore. I got the complete opposite. Sure, there are some clever and creepy ways on how to kill/torture someone, but it was overall, a disapointment. I got about an hour of useless stuff to see about 10 minutes of torture. So disapointing...
JAY HERNANDEZ is irresistbly HOT!!!and the movie is bloddy and gross Ive never seen before!!!its SOMETHING different from other horror movies!!NEW STORY AND NEW STYLE!!I enjoyed watching this movie!!!you should watch it too trust me!!!
This movie was awful & a waste of time!!
