Hot Shots! Part Deux

( 1 )

Overview

This sequel to Hot Shots! didn't do half as well with the public as the first comedy but it actually contains more laughs than the original so maybe it will find a new audience on DVD. A wild spoof of the Rambo franchise that finds the time to lampoon dozens of other movies, Hot Shots! Part Deux still offers laughs after multiple viewings. The disc sports a good widescreen anamorphic transfer that returns the movie to its theatrical aspect ratio and the sound is well balanced and clear coming out of either a ...

A wild spoof of the Rambo franchise that finds the time to lampoon dozens of other movies, Hot Shots! Part Deux still offers laughs after multiple viewings. The disc sports a good widescreen anamorphic transfer that returns the movie to its theatrical aspect ratio and the sound is well balanced and clear coming out of either a stereo system or television speaker. The DVD features two promotional features, the first is done in Spanish as a joke and the second (entitled "Early Awareness" -- the makers of the movie have a great time titling these things) seems like the usual made-for-HBO promotional film. While none of these extras are great, the DVD has been released at a low list price and the movie itself earns its keep in laughs alone.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
While less critically acclaimed than its prequel, Hot Shots! Part Deux performed marvelously at the box office by earning a healthy 38 million dollars. Director Jim Abrahams continued to mine the material that he had perfected with Jerry and David Zucker in films like Airplane (1980) and Top Secret (1984). Both Charlie Sheen, who offers a perfect send-up of all things macho, and Italian actress Valeria Golino, whose deadpan delivery aptly matches the hero's, reunite from Hot Shots! (1991). There is also a nice cameo by the hero's father, Martin Sheen, afloat on the river and apparently still stuck on the set of Apocalypse Now (1979). The lack of plot and nonstop gags align this movie with 1930s classics like the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup (1933) and W.C. Fields' The Bank Dick (1940). Reviewers generally enjoyed Hot Shots! Part Deux's parody of movies like Rambo III (1988) and Lady and the Tramp (1955), though many felt that it lacked the originality and pizzazz of earlier Abrahams and Zucker films.

Great spoof of Rambo and Chuck Norris movies

If you enjoy movies that make fun of other movies, than you'll really enjoy this one. When you watch make sure you're in a mood to laugh, otherwise you'll miss alot of the funnier moments.
