Horror-rocker Rob Zombie's directorial debut gets a polished treatment in this DVD release. House of 1000 Corpses has been given a letterboxed transfer at its original widescreen aspect ratio, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. In addition to the film, the disc incorporates several bonus features, including an alternate commentary track from director Zombie, several deleted scenes, the film's original theatrical trailer, and another alternate audio track which isolates the film's musical score.
ocker Rob Zombie. Hearkening back to the less glamorous days of horror, the film digs its roots deep in '70s exploitation and thinly-plotted '80s slasher flicks while wearing every influence on its sleeve for all to see. While the framework is familiar, it's Zombie's trademark style that sets this apart from its horror ancestors. Full of garish colors and manic editing, House tends to walk a little too close to the music-video line at many points -- but if you're able to look past those faults (many aren't), you may find yourself giving in to the carnival-like visuals and over-the-top performances littering the film. Bypassing the rule of overpopulating fright flicks with as many hot TV teens as the law allows, here horror-vets Sid Haig, Karen Black, and Bill Moseley reign supreme in Zombie's gaudy thrill-ride. Haig especially stands out as the crazed, clown-faced Captain Spaulding, who after a classic introduction, unfortunately becomes second-tier to the rest of this nasty tale...And nasty it is! While nowhere near the gore-fest that the immense hype billed it as, boosted by its bouts with the MPAA and long delay of release by being dropped by not just one, but two major studios, House of 1000 Corpses still manages to be a loud, fun, and grisly horror outing that, love it or hate it, is 100 percent Rob Zombie. Three years later, the director would come back with the sequel The Devil's Rejects, a vastly superior production that won over many who weren't satisfied with this initial outing.

The Texas Chainsaw Mas...er...House of 1000 Corpses was well put together and the cinematography was excellent. However it was the spitting image of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre I don't know about you but I expected more creativity from a guy who has a name like Zombie. I did think it had comical value, there's no character more colorful than Captain Spalding but this is nothing to brag about. Don't take my word for it see it for yourself and formulate your own opinion
The texas chainsaw massacre was this movies inspiration. You can easily tell because of how it was put together. The opening, the climax, all of it was so original and new. Rob Zombie difinatly deserves a spot in horror movie history just for this hour and 28 minutes of maddness and brilliance. I belive this movie is the next TCM. Loads of gore, twisted story, and jsut plain macabe in this movie. Great horror title, a must see
this movie was okay, it just needed more gore
Rob Zombie set his goals high with this movie and delivers. Doing so without the special affects utilized since Nightmare on Elm St. He takes us all back to the basics where pretty girls with some dopy guys and a badass get slaughtered the old fashion way. With hundreds of gallons of blood flowing throughout the movie you will surley injoy this one.
This genre is definitely a dying breed. But thank goodness we've got someone like Rob Zombie (and cast) to come up to the plate and revive a long awaited ''Classic'' Horror flick. No more teen horror flicks or super high movie effect Sci-fi horror stuff.... House of a 1000 corpses take it back to a gritty ''old school'' style. You've probably already read all the bad reviews from these high paid bribed hollywood fed type movie critics but believe me when I tell you will NOT be disappointed if you looking for a classic horror film. Can't wait for the sequel.
As far as modern horror goe's(scream, freddy vs' jason , I know what you did last summer) this movie was the best.In a time when horror is at it's worst one man decided it was time to rewrite the ideas of horror in a new fashion. PLEASE ROB MAKE MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This IS my favorite movie of all time, I just watched it again for the hundreth time the night before last. I don't understand how all people say there are bad shots that should not have been put in and all... But in an interview, that is what zombie was aming for, a B movie. Since those were his influences and a hell of a lot better than the shiny, perfect stuff now adays, he wanted to make it like an old 70's movie.
After watching this movie I realized I had never watched anything more disturbing. Being a horror movie fan, it did tend to be a lot like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that's a good movie, but so is this one. It brings in surprises around every corner and is certainly something you would expect from Zombie.
ITs great, nothing funny about it,It could happen to you---Its one of the best horror, for us horror fans looking for a scare...Theres no humor in any of it.......To devoted fans of horror, its a crazy creepy flick. Its # 2 on my list if you are looking for that weekend horror fix, like me.Its truly gory too,in case you just want scary without the gore, then pass......I dont like gore fests, but the story here is worth the gory parts......Dont go driving around back roads at night,or at all.
As a long time horror fan I was indeed impressed. I'm not letting my kids watch it but after doing so myself I'll probably buy it. If you liked the Texas chainsaw masacre films, especially the one with Dennis Hopper, you'll love this. Need I say more?
I would give this movie ten stars if I could!!! Rob Zombie will be robbed at the Academy Awards if he doesn't get Movie Of The Year for his efforts on this supreme work of art!!! This movie has it all: fun, excitement, suspense and just the right amount of titillation!!! Buy two copies (one to keep for back up just in case!!!)
If you like Rob Zombie as an artist, then you will love this movie. I was kept on the edge of my seat all the way through. The soubdtrack is excellent too! I would highly recommend fans and non fans to see this. You will become a fan after seing it!
This is a truely twisted movie by Rob Zombie, so of course it is worthwhile. Yes, it does take from other cult favorites of this genre, but I love the twisted up beat feel that Rob Zombie brings to it. This is the kind of horror movie that makes you smile, giggle and get giddy!
I was really looking forward to this movie, but it just didn't work for me! So much potential wasted with a plot that makes no sense and seems to never go anywhere. The worst part about the film (besides wasting my time and the talent Karen Black) is that just when you get the sense that the film is about to go somewhere it never does!
The best horror films since the 70's. Rob Zombie is beyond talented. I can't wait to see The Devil's Rejects (the sequel).
This is a great movie the only thing better then it is Devils Rejects only because the ending is more realistic then house. I love Rob Zombie annd his wife Sheri moon is about one of my favorite actresses lets hope she makes more movies she plays a phyco quite well. If there were more then a 5 star rateing then i would give it a 10.
I would give it no stars if I could. It was as if Rob Zombie rented ''Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2'' (which is also a terrible movie) and remade it. It covers no new territory and the story is predictable from the word go. Save your money and time and watch ''Texas Chainsaw Massacre'' instead.
This movie was really really good. It was so invintative. I mean throught the whole move there was something going on. A great movie everyone should watch.
The best damn movie I have seen in a really long time! But, beware- if you are not a horror fan, you will hate it. But, if you're not a horror fan you probably suck, anyway!
We love watching scary horror movies... but this was nothing but a big disappointment. It has to be the most stupid, unscary movie we have ever seen. It doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating.
is the scariest movie ever. Rob Zombie is awesome making his own movie. I recommended for all fans of horror watch it and be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!
This movie was amazing from first time director Rob Zombie.
