    Good family fun

This is a follow-up to 1973's "Tom Sawyer",and it's not as good. That said,it's a handsome and reasonably faithful musical version of Mark
Twain's classic story.Once again, the Sherman brothers contribute a solid script and some tuneful songs.A spirited cast helps(Jeff East and Paul Winfield are excellent). But although warmly directed by J.Lee Thompson, the movie is slow-paced and too long.Still, there is much to enjoy here, and it makes a good introduction to the book.Families will like it.
