Overview

Filmmaker David Sington merges the magnificence of science with the compelling drama of the human quest for advancement with this fascinating and visually stunning meditation on the historic Apollo space program. In the four remarkable years between 1968 and 1972, American history took a defining turn as nine NASA spacecraft made the trip to the moon, and 12 bold explorers became the first men ever to set foot on ground beyond planet Earth. In this documentary, space enthusiast Sington allows the surviving crew members from each Apollo mission the unique opportunity to recount their memories of those missions in their own words as vintage, original NASA film footage offers a tantalizing glimpse of this extraordinary era in American history. Candid interviews with the astronauts reveal the sensitive and fun-loving souls whose fearlessness would lead a nation into a new era of progress, and audio recordings from Mission Control lend a newfound sense of poignancy to a variety of oft-recounted historical milestones.

    I Also Recommend:

    "Out of this world!"

"In the Shadow of the Moon" could very well be the best documentary about the human quest to explore outer space ever produced. It's extremely interesting to hear the astronauts' perspectives regarding the lessons they learned from their visit(s) to this other world. Particularly, what it taught them about our Earth, and how it affected their views about creation, the earth's vulnerability, and their own spirituality An absolutely stupendous film!

Oh, and the soundtrack gets an A-plus!

One Heck of an Awe Inspiring Film

I will be purchasing this documentary for my young daughter and myself. I was born after a lot of the Apollo missions happened, but what an emotional high you get from the way this documetary was produced. If you love Space, Earth and Life in general you'll tear up with joy and excitement. It really shows you how tiny we really are here on planet Earth. One of the top two on my list of documenteries.

    Must See!

I saw this documentary at a film festival last year and have been anxiously awaiting the DVD release since then. Very entertaining and educational at the same time.
