DVD BRAND NEW Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile and intriguing actors working today. Launching his career as a teenage heart-throb, then moving into eccentric roles in ... films like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE, he has alternated between independent films like FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and mainstream blockbusters like CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. In one of only a handful of interviews Depp has ever granted, he openly explores issues like being uncomfortable with his teen idol status, his affinity for Edward Scissorhands, his life with Romanian gypsies and the impact of becoming a father. Inside the Actors Studio: Johnny Depp

Rather than just viewing a video or being at an interview, it was more like being part of a gathering with Johnny Depp present. The manner in which James Lipton presented the topics seemed like what a new acquaintance would be interested in. There was not just an initial question or comment, there would then be a follow-up, such as in the topic of Ed Wood; first relating that Ed Wood was a cross-dresser and then asking if that was part of the fun doing that part. Then he followed with asking how much of Ed Wood was Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp, in response, gave casual, honest answers with side trivia. The viewer gets the benefit. One gets to see Johnny Depp, the man, instead of the actor. It was a warming experience viewing this.

    Outstanding Interview

Depp's interview with Lipton gives us a glimpse at a highly skilled actor and intelligent man. This interview gave me a new found respect for Depp's talent and dedication to his art.
