    Even better than Morse

Inspector Robert "Robbie" Lewis returns from his assignment in the BVI about 5 years after the death of his partner Morse. Detective Sergeant James Hathaway is his new partner. The relationship between the elder, "blue-collar" Lewis and the younger Cambridge educated Hathaway is well written and believable. The entire show is very well cast, the plots are solid and the use of background imagery is perfect.

If your are looking for a good terra incognita - Inspector Lewis will not disappoint.

However, if you are an aficionado of Inspector Morse, you may be a little disenchanted. This is not a continuation of the relationship between Morse and Lewis - it tries, but fails. Having said that, the Inspector Lewis series, in and of itself, is an entertaining, thought provoking series. The relationship of Lewis to Hathaway is not the same as Morse to Lewis, and I doubt if there will ever be another combination in English mysteries to rival the duo.

The scenery of Oxford remains constant and beautiful, as do the collaborations of Lewis and the police coroner. Hathaway just needs to warm-up a little. It must be his religious upbringing. But still, I have faith!

Take a chance and view it, you will be entertained.

A thinking person's mystery; an excellent followup to the Inspector Morse series.

An excellent series whose plots and script are worthy of Colin Dexter. The actors are experienced, talented performers of long-standing in Britain - TV, film & stage - they are not newly discovered talent from an "idol" show. The Inspector Lewis series is guaranteed to hold the viewer's attention at many levels, from start to finish.
