Entertaining but not a must have

The story takes place in the 1800's focusing on a young French girl, Aimee, who is cousin to the future Empress Josephine. Aimee becomes part of the Grand Seraglio of the Ottoman Sultan. She survives intrigues and protects her adopted son until he becomes Sultan. The plot is entertaining and the locales / scenery is effective but some of the acting is too stiff and emotionless to be believed. The main character is at times a little too simpering and spineless to evoke pity or sympathy as you watch her survive the tragedies in her life. Light entertainment overall.
