Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Erstwhile teen heartthrob Shaun Cassidy produced this exemplary science fiction series, which lasted the entire 2005-6 season on ABC but wasn't picked up for another year. Despite that fact, it is an unusually well-scripted and well-acted program; and one that, by year's end, had acquired a passionate fan base. Invasion's supporters attribute the cancellation of this show to its relative paucity of stereotypical sci-fi action and special effects. From the first, the series relied heavily on mood, atmosphere, and a genuinely creepy premise: that malevolent aliens use supposed natural disasters as diversions to infiltrate communities of humans and surreptitiously work toward their conquest and subjugation. The first episode begins with U.S. Park Ranger Russell Varon (Eddie Cibrian) working feverishly to protect his small town on the edge of the Florida Everglades from the effects of a devastating hurricane. His young daughter Rose (Ariel Gade) sees mysterious lights hovering above the water as the storm begins to intensify, and though Russell initially dismisses the girl's claim, he comes to suspect that someone -- or something -- made landfall. Sheriff Tom Underlay (series star William Fichtner) becomes concerned when a virus spreads among the populace in the hurricane's aftermath, forcing him to put the town under quarantine. Invasion employs a serial structure, one episode leading into the next, and the story line builds in suspense as each installment unfolds. The introduction and steadily increasing participation of important secondary characters -- such as Varon's son Jesse (Evan Peters) and Underlay's daughter Kira (Alexis Dziena) -- adds depth and texture to the plot, which progresses to an eminently satisfying climax. Neither intended nor suited for the undiscriminating patrons of sophomoric space operas, Invasion is a chilling, edge-of-the-seat thriller that richly deserves its outstanding reputation.

Australia is often overloaded with American soaps and meaningless, poorly scripted cop shows. Invasion was American television at its best, please bring back the series, don't leave us hanging. Show us that a quality series can prevail.

Invasion was a unique and very suspenseful show with an unpredictable storyline that was extremely well crafted and had excellent character development. The is not a run of the mill Sci-Fi show.

It was so good!! I don't understand why they cancelled it and left us in the air???

Shaun Cassidy's INVASION (2005-2006) was a brilliant, 22 episode series about a hurricane in the Florida everglades town of Homestead that brings with it a race of aliens who take control of the local humans. What's brilliant about this show is the metaphor it is for the change in family dynamics after Eddie Cibrian's ranger character, a family man, loses his wife to the mysterious Sheriff and has to share custody of his son and young daughter. The Sheriff has his own daughter, struggling to fit in with the family, and the young kids have also got a new (pregnant) stepmom. This show was wonderful.

ABC hasn't learned its lesson from hits like TWIN PEAKS and cancelled this brilliantly labyrinthine show after 1 season (22 episodes!)...Great show though

This was the best show. My whole family looked forward to seeing it every week. We don't like where it ended. Larkin in the water, that's it. What about her baby?

This show was one of the best scifi shows on television. It was cancelled too early and they left us all hanging. What is wrong with the networks. It is a must see for scifi fans. Anything Shaun Cassidy has written is worth seeing (remember American Gothic??).

I really loved the show. Is there any chance it will be picked back up? Is there a book about the story so we can find out how it ended. I would buy it.
