I saw this film recently for the first time, I've always had been aware of it, but it's not a film you can find at any random video store, so finally after years of hunting it down, I found a copy and it was well worth the wait. The only thing I knew about the feature was that it contained an infamous and grueling rape scene. I didn't know anything more than that and how it was one of the most shocking films of all time. So within seconds of starting the film, I knew that this was going to be nothing I've ever seen before and I've sure seen my fair share. I won't give away anything, but this film will shake you in your bootstraps. It's a mind-pounding, thought provoking, intense, gritty picture. Very similar to the groundbreaking "Momento," in structure, but with it's own original style. The cinematography is not for everyone, since it does have a handheld bouncy effect to it, but not like a Paul Greengrass flick, this has a very stylized look and feel and it's visuals and editing work hand in hand. You really feel for the three main characters. I read more about this film after watching it and found out that the film was originally only 3 pages long and that most, if not all the dialogue was improvised to give it a much more real perspective and angle of the story and characters and it shows. Bellucci, Cassel and Dupontel all work extremely well off each other and at times it's "surreal" how "real" the characters go about themselves. The film's beginning starts off the way it ends in a way and by the end of the film, I was left speechless and motionless. This is one of those rare gems that I am glad to have not only have purchased but have been apart of in a way. Gaspar Noe is a master of his own and takes filmmaking to a level that needs to be studied upon...so watch this film with warning and be ready for your perception distorted, cause this film is as gritty as it gets and I can definitely tell you, "You've never seen a film like this before..."

Absolutely incredible movie, must see if you are a film-maker or/and especially if you are a student of film theory. Talk about developing extra-ordinary characters in ordinary circumstances!

This movie is brutal to your senses and the way you look at the world. Very often we become numb to the violence we see on TV and in the movies. If you watch the two most violent scenes in this movie , you will see what reality looks like.

This movie was of great importance at the 2003 Galway Film Fleadh in Galway, Ireland. This film's content was held under great debate. This movie is definately not for the faint of heart. It is both physically and mentally exhausting. Noe stops at nothing to bring our attention to real issues and is not coy or discreet about anything. The 12 scenes are all uncut and the cinematoghraphy is wonderful in adding to the effect that Noe wants this film to have on you. Just as a side note, this film was presented in Galway in the Genre of ''Extreme Cinema''.

This is a movie of Incomperable dimension. Despite what you hear about the brutality involved in two of the films scenes, this movie will redeem itself to even the beggest skeptic of you can make it to the end. for a film to take the audiance from sheer terror to laughter and then affirm life and love in such a beautiful way is absolutely astounding. i know this is all very vague, but trust me, when you see this for the first time you will be glad no punches were pulled, and no one spoiled anything for you. even if you know certain elements of the movie, as most people do when going in to see it, dont judge it ahead of time. it truely has to be seen to be believed. you will not regret it.
