When Diane brings Amanda to a summer camp, she first encounters Alyssa Ashley Olsen, the wealthy daughter of the camp's sponsor, Roger Callaway Steve Guttenberg. The girls immediately bond and decide to switch places for the fun of it. They soon conclude that their lives would be improved if Roger and Diane were to get together and form a family, and they set out to bring the adults together. More jaded, older viewers may be put off by the film's saccharine tone and derivative, Parent Trap-like narrative, but the inoffensive humor and the presence of popular TV stars the Olsen Twins should appeal to family audiences.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Those adorable twin "tyke-oons" Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen ventured outside Full House to make their big-screen debut in this irresistible 1995 romantic comedy. Part Parent Trap and part Prince and the Pauper, this family film features Mary-Kate as Amanda, a feisty and streetwise orphan. Ashley costars as Alyssa, whose wealthy father is engaged to a child-hating social climber. When the look-alikes meet at a summer camp, they conspire to switch places and play Cupid for Ashley's dad (Steve Guttenberg) and Amanda's compassionate social worker (Kirstie Alley). The adults are wise not to get in the way of the Olsens, who carry the movie with scene-stealing aplomb

    Cute movie, witha happy ending

When two girls, one an orphan looking for a home, and the other a wealthy girl about to get an evil stepmother, meet in the woods, the trouble begins. The two decide to switch places for a night. Soon the too girls realize just how much they enjoy each other's company. Deciding that the wealthy father and the attractive caseworker would be perfect for each other, the two girls set put a trap to hopefully get the two of them to fall in love. The orphan girl's main hopes of getting the two adults to fall in love are so that a family whom she can't stand won't adopt her. This movie gives a glimpse into the lives of orphans. The character in the movie constantly refers to how hard life as an orphan can be, and how nice a family would be. It also portrays the fact that older children are harder to adopt, because most people would prefer to adopt an infant. <br> The movie takes off from there, and like a lot of children's movies, even through all of the twists and turns everything works out for the best. This movie follows a traditional plot line of a matchmaker movie, but it gives laughs and surprises around every corner. This movie will certainly be around to entertain the young and old generations for a long time to come.
