Jacked Up

( 2 )

Overview

Artisan Entertainment has done a nice job with the DVD packaging of Jacked Up, despite the limited potential audience. The anamorphic transfer makes the under-illuminated, grainy film stock look as good as it's going to get. The 5.1 sound option is missing, but the 2.0 stereo works fine, although the music often bleeds into the dialogue track. The commentary track -- yes, a commentary, in a low-budget urban action film -- with director Timothy Wayne Folsome and producer William Hightower is a pleasant bonus as ...

The commentary track -- yes, a commentary, in a low-budget urban action film -- with director Timothy Wayne Folsome and producer William Hightower is a pleasant bonus as they describe how the movie was shot in just 20 days in Columbus, Ohio, using actors who weren't cast until the day before they shot their scenes. The "Filmographies" pages for Folsome and Hightower read like high-minded "career goals" from their resumes; actress Anna Maria Horsford's entry goes back to 1979.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
A cut above most gangsta-rap features, Jacked Up is hampered nonetheless. While the story and acting are well above the genre benchmarks -- which isn't saying much, seeing how woefully low the standards are -- the shoestring budget and fly-by-night nature of the filmmaking will keep away mainstream audiences. That said, those who refuse to compare urban dramas-with-action with movies that actually get released into theaters will be delightfully surprised at the compellingly twisted tale. A cast of hard-working newcomers, vaguely familiar rap stars and veteran Anna Maria Horsford holding down the center keeps things from getting too trite or boring.

    truly tastful for everyone

This is one of the best movies i've seen in a long time.In a day where all these movies are about killing and violence this movie portrays the aftermath and the actual guilt that so many that murder do not even have. This is my favorite movie.

    Jacked Up

Jacked Up, a true film that blurs the edges between right and wrong. If one were to see the action cover box ''Live by the Streets, Die by the street'' You would tend to think, Another gangster movie about our disoriented youth. However this film caught me by suprise, with it's unimaginable grip on how it is like on the streets of Ohio. The choices that one must decide to live with, or without. Above all this film, portray's the use of one's mind over conventional weapons of today. I would definatly recommend this movie to everyone I see.
