Jackie's BackDirector: Robert Townsend, Jenifer Lewis, Tim Curry, TV Blake
Soul diva Jackie Washington is determined to hit the comeback trail but seems to be having trouble finding the on-ramp in the mock-documentary comedy Jackie's Back. Jackie (played by Jenifer Lewis) was a Rhythm and Blues singer who had a few late '60's and early 70's hits, including "Yield" and the memorable "Look At Me (My Love For You Has Only Made Me Love Me More)," but she's spent much of the 80's and 90's playing the "Where Are They Now?" circuit. However, Jackie has organized what she hopes will be a gala comeback concert, and filmmaker Edward Whatsett St. John (Tim Curry) is on hand to film the event, and discusses the high and (frequent) low points of Jackie's career with such friends and well-wishers as Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Penny Marshall, Jackie Collins and Dolomite himself, Rudy Ray Moore. Meanwhile, Jackie's big gig is not going quite the way she planned. Directed by Robert Townsend, Jackie's Back was produced for the Lifetime Cable Network and originally aired June 14, 1999.

I saw Jackie's Back on Lifetime. It was hilarious!!! I love Jackie's Back. I have my sister and her co-worker watching this movie not once but three times out of the week. And every time we see this movie there is something different that we did not see before to laugh at. Jackie's Back got funnier each time we watched it. When you need a GOOD laugh, watch Jackie's Back! If anyone knows of anymore funny movies similar to Jackie's Back, please email me.
I first saw this movie a few months ago and, since then, have rented it at least three times a month. THIS IS THE FUNNIEST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN! I recently ordered a personal copy for my home. Jenifer Lewis is HOOT! Pray, chant and keep your fingers crossed that someone has enough insight to make this into a series.
I saw this movie on Lifetime I loved it. It has alot of celebrities on it. Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Najimy, Loeretta Devine, Robert Townsend, Dolly Parton, Liza Minelli, and many many more. I love this movie.
Amazingly funny ,witty mockumentary filled with hilarious cameos ...definitely a keeper ...a black austin powers except its about a washed up black entertainer sooki sooki mama killed me.
Playing a bit part as Will Smith's aunt on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air did not truly give this actress enough room to play a part to her fullest. When I heard of her starring role in this film I knew that I had to watch it. It was suprisingly even more than I expected it to be. Definitely a movie to add to your collection and watch over and over. The laughs keep coming whether delivered by Jenifer Lewis herself or indirectly through ''friendly'' comments from some of Jackie's superstar friends.
The absolute funniest movie of all time...I hope they're working on a sequel. And I wish there were a soundtrack CD...the songs are great!
This a very funny movie ... great to see with a group of friends. Jenifer Lewis is great and the whole theme is hilarious.
Jackie's Back is one of those movies you watch weekly, quote daily and find yourself involuntarily laughing aloud at during the most inopportune times (like while in the bathroom stall at work). Jennifer Lewis is hilarious as the down-trodden diva making a ''come back''; Whoopi Goldberg is inspired as the imbittered sister; and extraordinary cameos from stars like Liza Minnelli to Diahann Carroll to Bette Midler make this film a cult classic. ''Cause what? Thank you...say no more!''
I have told soooo many people about this movie. If you want a night of nothing but side-aching laughter, this is the movie for you. It is so out of the box that you can't do anything but laugh. Jenifer Lewis is truely under recognized as an actor. After I saw this on life-time one time I taped it...then I couldn't wait for the DVD to come out to buy it! I even pre-ordered it, it's that funny!
I have watched this movie countless of times. Each time I am finding myself rewinding and fast forwarding to my favorites spots. Well the enitre movie is hilarious and it is truly one for your collection. Jenifer Lewis captures the very ''essence'' of a has been diva, clawing her way back to the limelight with her dim-witted but sweet Antondra at her side giving her the support she needs and her only true fan.
