    Essential companion to the cookbook

    Most cookbooks are just a list of recipes, but if you want to learn how to become a better cook, a book + DVD by Jacques Pepin is the way to go. His explanations of cooking techniques are the best I've ever heard, and the food is incredibly good. The recipes are in the book, but watching his preparation of the recipes is essential.
