Jeepers Creepers 2

( 13 )

Overview

Forgetting the clichés and the stereotypical characterizations, Jeepers Creepers 2 is a decent horror film. It's also an above-average DVD. MGM, who knows how to put together a decent special-edition disc, has done just that with this sequel. While not faultless, the 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer looks very nice. Early parts of the film are purposely washed out, while it turns darker later, and both are fine translations from the filmed image. Minor flaws do appear, but they are generally insignificant enough not to...

Minor flaws do appear, but they are generally insignificant enough not to be a distraction. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is equally impressive, as the surrounds are used extensively, but also come across very naturally. The overall sound scheme is effective and full, with the right balance between dialogue, music, and sound effects. Where the disc really stands out, though, is with the supplemental features. The highlights are two screen-specific audio commentaries and a lengthy documentary. The first commentary is by director Victor Salva and cast members Eric Nenninger, Garikayi Mutambirwa, Nicki Lynn Aycox, Josh Hammond, Marieh Delfino, and Shaun Flemming. The second, called the "Creeper Commentary," consists of actor Jonathan Breck, makeup artist Brian Penikas, and storyboard artist Brad Parker. The documentary, entitled "Lights, Action, Creeper: The Making of Jeepers Creepers 2," runs nearly 40 minutes and is broken down into four very enlightening segments: "Lights, Camera, Creeper," "Creeper Creation," "Creeper Composer," and "Digital Effects." In addition to this, and also quite fascinating, is a shorter documentary, "A Day in Hell," in which Salva is followed for a day's shooting. Although two photo galleries are standard fare, there are two unfilmed scenes shown in storyboard form that will interest enthusiasts. Also included are a number of deleted scenes, but they run together in a way that seems confusing. Finally, along with the theatrical trailer for this film are promotional spots for other MGM titles, including Out of Time, Bulletproof Monk, and the original Jeepers Creepers. While there are no claims that this is high art, or even a great scare flick, it is an effective film. As for this DVD, they don't often get much better.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jeremy Wheeler
Yes, the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) is back in Victor Salva's big monster movie blowout, Jeepers Creepers 2. Gone is any mention of the shadowy winged-beast only appearing whenever that terrible song is sung (used to extreme cheesy effect in the first film), though the pseudo-psychic slant still makes a return in this strange follow-up -- a modern update of Lifeboat for monster movie fanatics. If the first film's ending annoyed people by betraying it's atmospheric and intense early intentions, then they've got a big surprise ahead of them with this flick....This is wall-to-wall creature action on display. It's Monster Movie 101 in Salva's land, and everything from Jaws to Rob Bottin's grotesque Thing creations are on the chopping block for the director to hang his own hat on. What works here is the simplicity of the story -- a bus load of kids get trapped in the country with an ancient flying beast outside preying on them who only gets to eat for 23 days every 23 years, this being the last day. With this premise, Jeepers Creepers 2 not only promises a high body count, but also gives room for a truly outrageous performance from Ray Wise as the vengeance-filled father hot on the trail of the beast. His Ahab-like tough guy is a welcome distraction from the bickering, idiotic teens in the bus, of which there are many (half of whom end up running away with no mention of them afterwards). Though it succeeds mostly at being a jam-packed thrill ride, the sequel does take a few missteps along the way. By making the Creeper the main focus of the flick, you let the audience know right off the bat what kind of fun they're in for -- lots of screamin', lots of killin', and a little more humor added in to beef up the quirky likeability of the creature (something most horror sequels take pleasure in being culprits of). Sadly, they're aren't too many gratuitous kills to be had, nor does the Creeper ever fully grow into the horror icon the filmmakers might've been shooting for with this installment -- there are moments that come off straight-up cartoon-like, while others are nothing more than gross-out monster clichés or downright campy. That said, this is a monster movie, pure and simple. There's nothing much else to it. They could've handled the whole psychic angle much better this time and yes, there are more than a few bare-chested boys in the film (which, given Salva's shady past, comes off suspiciously gratuitous), but overall, it's a decent and mindless monster movie that's well scored, directed, and written to be nothing more than just that.

    I Also Recommend:

Love the first movie, the sequel however I didn't like all that much. But after seeing it again...

An alright sequel with some cool moments but at times a character or two I thought didn't need to be in the movie. One of the main characters from the first movie makes an appearance in the sequel. I'll admit I did like the opening scene where the Creeper is dressed like a scarecrow. In Jeepers Creepers 2, you have a school bus full of football players and cheerleaders that breaks down in the middle of the road. One by one they start to disappear thanks to the Creeper. All the while a father is looking for the Creeper since he took his younger son from the beginning of the movie. Like how in both movies you get hints at what the Creeper is like and learn a little bit about him. I'm just glad it doesn't have endless sequels like other horror series. Good movie to watch sometimes.

    Scary!

This movie is truly scary, but not as scary as the first. I believe it's because you see the monsters face more than the first movie. Plus the first movie the characters were so helpless and in this movie the characters fight back and win. A must have in your movie collection!

    Scary?

This movie is just terrible. My god. The first one was great. But this is your typical lackluster sequel. And once again, the director focus something all horror direcors seem to focus on now. Gore. Gore Gore Gore. That's all we see nowadays. When was the last time I was scared? I want to see a movie when I sleep with the bedroom light on and pray for dawn. What film did that for me? Halloween. When you see Halloween, all you will be seeing is that white mask with a knife. The dialauge to and acting in Creepers 2 is so wooden I can hit a baseball with it. Who is the main character really? The cheerleader, the blonde basketball player, or the farmer? The cheerleader who sees the visions either does this: 1 Scream. 2 Faint. 3 Or just stand there looking like she's on drugs. That blonde basketball player I can't stand. Thank god he gets killed. And in a good way! I can't just explain the rest of the acting, it's too complicated. The Creeper is still pretty gruesome. But not as scary as he was in the first one. But the special effects are pretty good. And if you look to see the credits you can notice that Francis Ford Coppala executive produced. Huh? The guy who directed the classics such as the Godfather series and Apocolypse Now doing this movie? Whoa. Bottom line is bad acting, bad script, and bad sequel.

MUCH WORSE THAN THE FIRST ONE!!!

Terrible like the first. Please do not torture yourself and watch a movie that has no plot or story development. The B-movie actors and monster are a riot to watch.

    Typical Sequel Junk

This movie was cashing in on the originality of the first movie, which was an excellent thriller. Jeepers 2 by no means follows on from the first movie, but rather rambles and plods along. The beginning is the worst with the father chasing after the son "Billy!" and Billy yelling "Dad" dead set 10 times. My friends and i were laughing in disbelief that this was acting! Save your money and rent a good thriller.

    not that good

this movie wasn't that good in my opinion. It did have its good moments but the rest mostly bore me. And they failed to bring the feeling that the first had, which I loved. But like I said, it did have its moments. This movie is worth a check.

    Great sequel

I was expecting to hate it. But instead, loved it. Not as good as the first but almost. The Creeper flew alot more which was cool since we could see more of its cool wings.

    disappointing

Jeepers Creepers 1 was great, this one was very disappointing. More comedy than horror. You knew what to expect one the 2nd one.

    Jeepers Creepers 2

I thought this movie was really good. I thought they did a good job with the Creeper and the high school students. I really liked the fact that they brought back Darry. That was cool. I recommend this movie to Jeepers Creepers lovers.

Jeepers Creepers 2: Turning Up the Notch On Action!

Directed by Victor Salva, after his first blockbuster hit, comes Jeepers Creepers 2. A story about a handful of basketball players, cheerleaders, coaches, and one annoying homophobic character, that are prayed on by the regenerating creature with an eating disorder, known as THE CREEPER. Jeepers Creepers 2 is a fun and exciting movie that kind of slows down on the suspense and cranks up a notch on the action! It's a good movie except for a little bit of loose ends that are left at the end but a good bit of crazy deaths too. Quote: 'Don't crawl under the wing you idiot!!!' Reccomended for people who like fun slasher flicks.
