Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Earning two Grammy nominations for his debut release, Room for Squares, was a pretty auspicious beginning for John Mayer. With the folksy, jazzy tone of Dave Matthews and the troubadour-like quality of Chris Isaak, Mayer has established himself as one of music's compelling new voices. This two-hour concert DVD was recorded live at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Alabama in September 2002 and features Mayer performing such hits as "No Such Thing" and "Your Body Is a Wonderland." It includes the featurette "Any Given Soundcheck," a virtual backstage pass to the show. Tracks are as follows:
  • 3x5
  • No Such Thing
  • Back to You
  • City Love
  • Something's Missing
  • Lenny/Man on the Side
  • Message in a Bottle
  • Love Song for No One
  • Why Georgia
  • Your Body Is a Wonderland
  • My Stupid Mouth
  • Covered in Rain
  • 83
  • Comfortable
  • Neon

Any Given Thursday is absolutely John Mayer at his best. Seeing and hearing him perform live brings a whole nother element to his music. Seeing how at home and comfortable he is on stage makes me really look forward to being a rock star! This is a must have for any John Mayer fan.

    About Time

After seeing John live at the Today show, I finally found out who played 'No Such Thing' and was totally hooked. What can I say- Berklee grads totally rock, and John Mayer is a perfect example of that. I love how he totally gets into the music and goes with it- especially because he sings part of 'Let's Hear It for the Boy' in his 83 Medley. It's about time that 'pop' music got some heavy duty musicians.

    Good Stuff!

I would highly recommend this DVD to any John Mayer fan. The music is great!! You should definitely check out the commentary; it's hilarious. John makes fun of himself, and you have to admit that he has some interesting uncontrollable habits during his performance. I am one of Dayla's biggest fans - he's awesome!

    FAN 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started out with the Any Given Thursday CD and instantly fell in love with this guys voice and the ability to just speak to my soul with his guitar. The lyrics are intelligent and well-arranged. When I found out that there was an Any Given Thursday DVD, I got excited, like a child on Christmas day! It was awesome! It's a pleasure knowing that the music industry still acknowledges true talent like this. He is truly an amazing songwriter, singer and performer. I have also seen him in concert in Atlanta last fall, and it was the best concert I have ever been to in my life. He and that guitar have something going on, man. It's almost scary!

Honest lyrics from a 'real' person from beginning to end

Any Given Thursday is a real delight. John Mayer is best heard through a live performance - his personality and wit shine in this live compilation. The intros and new 'added' lyrics give a dynamic twist to well written and insightful prose. This CD gives a much more honest account of John's talents without the soundstudio styling of producers. No processing, no retakes - just John playing the music we want to hear. Well worth the purchase. Good anytime of the day or night.

John is not a dream. He's a musician.

John's an amazing musician. This DVD is worth it even if you're not a fan to prove that he's NOT just ''a dream''. If you've only heard him on top 40 radio, get this DVD now, and get to a show this summer.

Any Given Thursday Seven Days a Week!

John Mayer has talent. Anyone disputing that hasn't really been paying attention. ANY GIVEN THURSDAY is a wonderful reflection of his diversity, humor and musical gifts. If you've listened to live versions of his songs before, then you already know that his concerts always have surprises in them, and that the man can lose himself in his playing like no one else. That kind of dedication to one's craft is awe-inspiring and should definitely be witnessed. In my opinion, the most fun feature of the DVD is the commentary by John and Scotty, showcasing the friendship between the two and John's natural humor and insightfulness. I highly recommend this purchase to any music fan!

JOHN MAYER IS ONE SEXY MAN

Yeah, the music is cool - the songs are wonderful - but look at him. He is a dream. Whatever girl gave him the insperation to write Your Body Is A Wonderland is a lucky woman. And then to see him perform is live is more than I can take. I didn't pay enough for this DVD.

An Incredible Gifted Musician and Performer

John Mayer is quite entertaining. He is a breath of fresh air. I, as most people, saw the video for No Such Thing and was immediately hooked. Little did I know he already had a small following of loyal fans. No Such Thing prompted me to go out and buy Room For Squares, but I never really listened to it, until one night when it was raining outside and I was in a somber mood. The songs on Room For Squares was exactly what I needed to bring a smile to my face. The music was fantastic, but the lyrics to many of the songs seemed to vocalize what I was going through - good or bad. So my next mission in life was to see Mr. Mayer in concert. Well, I had missed him by two weeks appearing in my town, so when I found out this DVD was coming out, I had high hopes. I wasn't disappointed. As a matter of fact, I was instantly impressed. This DVD give you a small preview of his soundcheck. That's great for an avid music fan such as myself. An awesome addition to add for the fans. Then there is the concert itself. I have been to dozens of concerts, and You can just when an artist is in perfect synch with his band and his audience. Although I didn't attend this concert, I see why it has been released for others to enjoy. John is magnificent on guitar and his rapport with the audience and his band was quite entertaining. Although I have grown to love everything John plays, the standout selections on this DVD, in my opinion are: 3x5, City Love, Love Song For No One, Why Georgia, Your Body Is A Wonderland, Covered in Rain, Comfortable and Neon. Okay, so that's more than half, but believe me, you will not be disappointed. When the last song, Neon was over, I was still given a treat with the DVD extra ''The Morning After.'' What a great item to own.

    AMAZING

If you have any interest in Mayer...of even if you haven't heard of him yet-- PICK UP THIS DVD. The entire concert is incredible and the great thing about it is you can press play over and over again if you can't get enough. John is extremely talented and this live dvd/video/cd proves just that.
