John Wayne - The Signature Collection

( 2 )

Overview

While it may be difficult to summarize a career as lengthy as John Wayne's with only four films, this set does a commendable job. In addition to his breakthrough film, Stagecoach, this set offers the film that contains what is widely regarded as his most psychologically arresting work, The Searchers, as well as offering a look at his more playful side with Howard Hawks' Rio Bravo, and The Cowboys.

    Best Western Ever Made

From start to finish not just the best western, but one of the best American movies of all time. John Ford and John Wayne at the pinnacle of their talent made a perfect mix of story, place, time and character. Beautiful to look at, touching, at times funny and always exciting, a brooding Wayne, and a slew of character actors familiar to Wayne and Ford films but cast perfectly in their supporting roles. And, for it's time, some even-handedness in regards to the white man's treatment toward Native American's. What I wouldn't give to see this movie up on the big screen.
