By the time Joni Mitchell hit the road for 1979's historic Shadows and Light tour, she'd already transitioned gracefully from the straight-ahead folk sound of Ladies of the Canyon to the pop-flavored Court and Spark. She'd begun experimenting with a more jazz-inspired tone, collaborating with Weather Report bassist Jaco Pastorius on 1976's Hejira. This disc features Mitchell performing live at the Santa Barbara County Bowl with Pastorius, the Persuasions, Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, and Michael Brecker, jamming on tunes from both Shadows and Light and her previous album, the critically lauded Mingus. Tracks include:- In France They Kiss on Main Street
- Edith and the King Pin
- Coyote
- Free Man in Paris
- Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
- Jaco's Solo
- The High and the Mighty
- Third Stone from the Sun
- Dry Cleaner from Des Moines
- Amelia
- Hejira
- Black Crow
- Furry Sings the Blues
- Raised on Robbery
- Why Do Fools Fall in Love?
- Shadows and Light
