A resounding, four-channel Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack bounces forth from the main menu of this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which is presented as more of a filmed play than a feature movie. Bonus materials include a slick, behind-the-scenes "Go, Go, Go Joseph" featurette that begins with five minutes of shots from the film, production notes, a "History of Joseph" (at the hands of Webber, that is), talent files, and recommendations for further viewing (ads for Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Lord of the Dance).

I absolutely love EVRYTHING about this musical. I was in this musical at my highschol and we had a blast doing every scene! This play is timelesss..
I enjoyed seeing the play years ago and needed to have the DVD. Donny Osmond is great!
This is one of my favorite musicals. This production is so much fun, and Donny Osmond does a great job as Joseph.
A great production. Donny Osmond is great as Joseph. It's a must see. It's great entertainment for the entire family. My kids watch it over and over again.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is such a great movie! Our whole family has enjoyed it (although the part with Potiphar's wife is somewhat mature for kids) I really can't get over how perfect Donny Osmond was in the role of Joseph. ''Close Every Door'' is my favorite song/scene, and I often return to that scene more than once when watching just to watch it again (ok, so it's not always just to hear the song....) I had bought a different version of the cd (the one with Michael Damian as Joe)and it's good, but am thinking about getting the one with Donny. It's too bad they didn't have Maria Friedman on the CD, she has an incredible voice. I think I could watch it many times and always find something new to like about it.
I first caught this on PBS sometime back and kept waiting for it to air again. Then after seeing the commercials on tv for its availability, I had to get it. It is one of those videos you can watch over and over. I have a five-year old who sings the numbers all the time. The music is real catchy. It moves along very well from scene to scene. The theme is well done too. Integrating the actors portayed as school faculty. There are a couple of scenes which may seem suggestive in maturity, but nothing really to offend, in my opinion. To me, this is totally different from Cats, which I've actually scene twice, when they were on tour in the past. Joseph is more of a modern mosaic painting, if that makes sense. It's a story that is told well and very good visually. Worth buying in my opinion. ''Both were servants of Pharaoh the King. Thrown in the dog house for doing their thing.'' -The Narrator (This is truly funny when you realize what it's referring to)
I have loved this show for a long time and now I get to share the experience with my daughter! We find ourselves singing the songs in the car on the way to school. The show is fun, colorful, funny and you can't help but sing along! Plus, what woman who loved Donny Osmond as a young girl would not want to see him all grown up and in a loin cloth?! The entire cast is just superb! Good for all ages too!
Loved this sureal, spectacular version of this fractalized story within a story within a story.
We've seen this show live several times by a variety of groups, and this movie still ranks as our favorite version. It really captures the imagination of my children. We love it!
I had to babysit two kids from the church I go to, and we all agreed to watch a movie. They picked this movie, and at first I thought it wasn't going to be good. But it was great! I loved it!
The Webber/Rice team is AWESOME! Donny Osmond is terrific and I wish I could find more from Maria Friedman, she really brought the whole film together as the Narrator yet I don't see any more shows featuring her. An incredible journey I have enjoyed many times!! Time to buy the DVD so it lasts forever!!
I really enjoy ''Joseph''. It is colorful, fun, and energized. I watch it about every other day, I love it so much. ''Joseph'' is an excellent show, and it should not be missed. It is very entertaining, what with its costumes, sets, and above all, musical numbers. The songs in it are wonderful. I really love the songs! ''Joseph'' is an amazing, cheering, and highly musical show. It is just great! (please note that I found most of the kids in it quite annoying at times- they were trying to act so cute. Their cuteness looks fake. However, they do make a nice choir.)
About a year ago, I was shopping for a fresh new musical for my high school. We'd run the usual Greese and Secret Garden into the ground. I picked up the Joseph DVD and as soon as we stuck it in, we knew this was the one! I'd reviewed the other versions after that ( i.e. Donovan's) and they weren't up to par--- Even the DVD was more colorful!!! (Which is the point, after all!) A Wonderful Script, and Wonderful Cast and Brilliant Scenery (DVD)--- ''...ahead of our time!''
This movie is really great! Donny Osmond as Joseph is as great as when he did the Broadway play. He really brought me into the movie and made me believe in what was happening with his character. One scene is a little mature, but it doesn't offend anyone or thing. I bought this video as a birthday gift for me on impulse because I kept seeing it in video stores and I just had to have it. As soon as I saw it, I kept watching it. It's a great video!!
Dude, I am totally in love with this show. It is a tubular thing that I really enjoy seeing. The people in it are really wild, dude, and they all have great voices. I want to see it again, man! Go,go,go Joseph!
I'm not a fan of musicals, but this one is no common musical. Entertaining time and time again. Days later still humming the songs. It showcases Donny Osmonds powerful vocals. I rented it and kept it for days to share with other family members. Technically though, the quality of the Audio and Video are above par. The only problem is the sound levels. Hit the play button and all is fine until the production starts. The sound level falls off drastically. You adjust the volume and moments later, you're turning it down again. Too many ups and downs. That's very disappointing given todays technology. That aside, you can't go wrong. It starts a little slow but by the second act, you're into it. Either buy it or rent it but don't miss out on this experience !
Extremely goood! Making me go back for more AND MAKING ME SING ALONG EVERYTIME! WONDERFUL!!!!
We are a family of five with children ranging in age from 3 to 12. After we first saw the PBS special a few years back, we had to purchase the tape. The performance is phenominal, Donny Osmond reinvented himself and will always be Joespoh and not the little boy from The Osmonds. The rest of the cast was also incredible and the Rice/Webber script is very clever and witty. It brought to life one of the greatest stories from the bible and made it as enterainable as any of todays current movie. Oh, by the way, we have watched the tape so many times, it is worn out and we are going to purchase a new one. If you have never seen the play, GO! If you want to see its premiere performance, buy this tape.
So far, 'all' my purchases from B&N have come thru with no problems. I give kudos to all departments involved. Every book, and DVD that I have ordered have been delivered on time, and 'all' have been exactly what I ordered. The DVD in question, 'Joseph', I ordered for my wife, and she loves it. She has watched it many times. (We saw the play 'on stage') All other purchases, I have been very satisfied with. I will continue to order from B&N, 'online', knowing that I get will be what I ordered. Thank You, B&N, for being such an excellent source for me. Again, I give B&N kudos!
I love ''Joseph''! It is fun, energized, and colorful. I have known about and been familiar with the songs for many years, and now I have new favorites. However, I never really knew that much about the show. The video has shown me how entertaining ''Joseph'' really is. The show is colorful and really fun to watch. After many years, I now have a great love for it. I also like songs I didn't really fancy before. One of these songs is ''One More Angel in Heaven''. I had never liked that one too much, but now I do, because the fast parts of the somg were not included on the CD I was able to listen to. I like other songs even more now, too. I believe that anyone who likes musicals would enjoy ''Joseph''. However, even if your young children liked ''Annie'' and ''The Music Man'', that doesn't mean that they'll want to watch or even like ''Joseph''. It might be boring for them, and unless your little kid is mature for their age,the probably won't understand some parts of it. Thanks for reading my review. Once you see this show, you'll surely be saying ''Go,go,go Joseph!''
