It is alive with color, while the dark scenes look perfectly natural, without any noticeable grain. The sound is problematic, as the dialogue is recorded lower than the music and sound effects. It is alive with color, while the dark scenes look perfectly natural, without any noticeable grain. The sound is problematic, as the dialogue is recorded lower than the music and sound effects. This means continuously raising and lowering the volume. For the most part, however, the extras make up for any inconsistencies. Though far from the best, they are plentiful. First up is an audio commentary track, not from the director or actors, but from the real "stars" of the film -- the visual effects crew. They create a track about the technical details while trying to keep it as uncomplicated as possible. In addition, there are three featurettes. The longest, a 20 minute "making of" documentary, has some interesting interviews, but little behind-the-scenes footage. The other two, one on the visual effects and the other on the production design, are shorter, but still appealing for those interested in an effects-laden picture such as this. A small storyboard section allows the viewer to look at drawn images of specific scenes while watching a smaller window with the final results. A brief photo gallery rounds out the main supplemental material. There are talent files and theatrical trailers for this film as well as for Madeline and Matilda. While certainly not the greatest special edition ever produced, this will no doubt please fans that enjoyed the film.

All Movie Guide - Karl Williams
The imaginative children's novel by Chris Van Allsburg becomes this successful, if a bit too sour, big-budget action-adventure. The basic idea of Jumanji (1995) is certainly an inventive and exciting one: a board game in which a player can be literally drawn into a savage jungle world upon a losing roll of the dice. Where the film seems to go wrong is in having its milquetoast hero disappear for so long, only to reappear as a physically tougher but emotionally wounded adult played by Robin Williams. What this story needs is a sense of joy, of a small-minded town too concerned about appearances and normalcy getting its comeuppance. Instead, an underlying sense of tragedy (parents undone by a child's disappearance, other kids orphaned, childhood scars holding adults back from moving on in life) scuttles the whole endeavor. Director Joe Johnston has all the trappings just right, and the computer-generated critters are sufficiently frightening, exciting, and realistic. It's the film's somber emotional content that saps what should have been a wild ride of the giddy vibe that should have been fueling the trip.

    Not just for kids

    This is an action movie, not the Bruce-Willis-action kind, but action packed for sure. Robin Williams is always wonderful, and the 2 kids in it are good actors too, although I'd say this movie is not for really little kids, as it can be kind of scary for them. Not just a movie for kids, my husband and I really like this movie, or anything with Robin Williams for that matter. Awesome special effects.

    great movie BUT............

    I agree, great movie, not so sure it's the best FAMILY film ever... Kind of scary for my 4 year old, would not let her watch it alone, that's for sure...

    Great White Hunter

    I wonder why Jonathan Hyde is not mentioned? He played two parts: (1) the father of the two children, and (2) the Great White Hunter. He was quite brilliant and easily the best actor in the film.

    The most amazing family film ever made

    I think that this movie should be watched by the whole family especially the acting done by Robin Williams . He was amazing so I was told by a certain person that I know but I won't mention any names because the person told me not to mention her name .

    Jumanji

    Jumanji was by far the best movie in the world if you want action apon action. It is filled with all sort of animals and great adventures that the kids and two adults have. This is by far the best movie ever so go rent it today.
