Overview

Shawn Levy directs Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy in the romantic comedy Just Married. The film makes its debut on DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by the director and the two leads, a selection of deleted scenes with optional commentary by Levy, a making-of featurette, and a documentary on the film that appeared originally on Comedy Central. This is a fine disc, no matter what one thinks of the film itself.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Just Married would be indistinguishable from a dozen other Ashton Kutcher vehicles if it weren't for Brittany Murphy goosing it with nutty energy. Murphy rarely gets the credit she deserves for her googly eyes and expert pratfalls, which make her as much an heir apparent to Lucille Ball as any comic actress working today; however, it's not enough to elevate Just Married above a predictable comedy of errors set against a European backdrop. The film makes a structural misstep by opening near the end of the story with the newlyweds angrily poking and tripping each other as they weave toward baggage claim, more like elementary school kids than adults returning from an albeit disastrous honeymoon. When the actual calamities of their trip unfold and don't measure up to that level of exaggerated behavior, it leaves a bad taste. It's as though screenwriter Sam Harper made the wrong parts of the script wacky. He avoids the pitfalls of films like Eurotrip and National Lampoon's European Vacation --- it's asking for trouble to send a script through each European nation only to spoof its locals and customs. But he's weak at a more ambitious task, writing funny scenes that don't rely on ethnic stereotyping. Too bad, because Murphy and even Kutcher prove themselves capable, notably during a scene of gonzo panic as a cockroach the size of a fist crawls along Kutcher's neck.

Brittany Murphy is an eclectic actress and a rising star. Casting lack-luster Ashton Kutcher along side the brilliance of Murphy is an odd paring that did not work for me.

This movie is by far my favorite romantic comedy!!! Just Married was ridiculously funny, especially if you just want a good simple comedy! Main characters Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy are dazzling together and their chemistry warms your insides. The movie is about a young, newly engaged couple who, in spite of their parent’s wishes and family background, jumps into marriage and leaves for a honeymoon in Italy. Unfortunately, the honeymoon doesn’t go as planned and right from the start, the young couple encounters many obstacles and a case of "bad luck." A twist is thrown into the movie when a former beau of Murphys’s shows up to try and split the couple up. You'll have a smile on your face the entire movie whether it's about the romance of the two or the humor. The interesting plot mixed with slapstick humor is what makes this movie so hilarious. You’ll be anxiously awaiting the next scene the first time you watch it, but it even after seeing the movie over and over, you'll still laugh, and even begin to quote straight from the movie!!! Just Married is a great couple movie, a friends movie, or even a mature family movie. It’s fun to watch all of the time and really a great movie to purchase. The moment Just Married was released, I went out and bought it. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies or wants to see a "feel good" movie!!! A real must see!
