Overview

An ailing veteran cop whose relentless determination to do away with an untouchable gangster has led him to employ a series of unethical tactics finds his investigation complicated by the arrival of principled new inspector and the death of a fellow cop in this explosive underworld tale from Skyline Cruisers director Wilson Yip. Facing an inevitable retirement, the beleaguered and cancer-stricken Detective Chan (Simon Yam) has grown desperate to put away Teflon-coated crime boss Po (Sammo Hung) -- so desperate that he even begins planting false evidence and tampering with video in hopes of making a charge against Po stick. As Detective Chan begins to grow accustomed to thoughts of retiring and make way for honest incoming Inspector Ma (Donnie Yen), the ongoing investigation hits a snag when an undercover cop who has infiltrated Po's gang is mysteriously killed.

Most of this movie bored me to tears, but the two fights that wrapped things up were pure gold. First Donnie takes on Sammo Hung's henchman, Jacky Wu, a stone-cold assassin who's very, very good with a knife. They meet in an alley and it's one of the most intense fights I've ever seen on camera. Then Donnie rumbles with Hung, using a lot of BJJ to showcase his ever-increasing knowledge and seemingly limitless ability. I won't say anymore about what happens except: you will be shocked.

If all you know of Sammo Hung are his comedy roels and silly cameos directing and co-starring with Jack Chan, you have to so check this out. Sammo, with major Hong Kong superstar (actally, Jacky Chan's greatest rival in martial arts choreography) Donnie Yen and stellar supporting cast. Very dramatic story, intense Scorsese-type scenes, and you'll want to pay attention to the very realistic, anti-wire fu fight scenes they have. Gets bloody violent good, as in BLOODY VIOLENT.

Like the movie, Love Sammo Hung & Donnie Yen. True icons in Martial arts films right now but I was disappointed with this movie. There was not real "hero" if you want to call it that. Fight choreography was all Donnie and I think he did his own English dubbing too.
